Navigating parking and transportation is essential for patients and visitors. IU Health University Hospital offers several convenient options.

Parking Garages and Valet Service

Patients may be dropped off or picked up at the main entrance or as directed on the pre-visit information from your doctor’s office. All garages have elevators, stairs and reserved parking spaces for people with special parking needs. Visitors may utilize valet service at the entrances listed below. Valet service is $15 and is available Monday-Friday from 7 am to 4:30 pm. Valet service is free for ADA patients and visitors with a Handicap plate/placard displayed at the time of arrival.

The Adult Outpatient Center Garage at IU Health University Hospital and IU Indianapolis Vermont Street garage are now fully automated. Automated Pay Stations are located in the garages. Cash, credit card and IU Indianapolis issued validations can be used for payment. For any issues or questions, call 317.274.4232.

Using the Automated Pay Stations (APS)

Take an entry ticket when entering the garage. Do not bend, damage or lose the ticket.
When leaving the hospital, look for signs that point to APS machines.
Insert the ticket into the APS machine. (The APS accepts cash, credit cards and IU Indianapolis parking validation cards.)
Pay the amount shown. The machine will validate and return your ticket.
In addition to paying at an APS station, payment can also be made at an “Exit Terminal” located at each exit. Credit cards and IU Indianapolis parking validation cards are accepted at the exit terminals.

Garage Locations

Adult Outpatient Center Garage: Located on the northeast corner of the hospital next to the IU Health University Hospital main entrance on University Blvd, this garage serves all outpatients, inpatients and hospital visitors.

Parking Assistance

University Hospital has recently updated its policy regarding parking assistance. If you have concerns about paying for parking, there is a financial assessment process for patients and visitors to receive parking assistance based on financial need. You may inquire about completing the assessment at registration, or by asking your care team. Please note that parking garages are owned by the university, not IU Health. Family and visitors who have a loved one at any IU Health facility for a long-term stay may purchase a monthly parking pass for either surface lots or garages from IU Indianapolis Parking Services.

Public Transportation

IndyGo is Indianapolis’s public transportation system. There are several bus routes with stops near IU Health University Hospital. If you have questions, please call the IndyGo Customer Call Center where staff members can assist with ticketing, trip planning, route detours and delays. The IU Health shuttle service connects IU Health facilities downtown, including IU Health University Hospital. The downtown route makes stops at six IU Health facilities.

Visiting Hours and Guidelines

Please check with the care team for the best visiting times; patients may designate one or two people as a primary support with 24/7 visitation access. Care team members may occasionally change or restrict normal visiting hours in the interest of the patient's health. Hours are different for each unit, so you will need to check with your nurse or a guest relations representative for specific visiting hours on a unit. Please note that these may change based on a patient’s condition or scheduled tests.

Restrictions Due to Viral Illnesses

Due to a rise in reported cases of flu and other respiratory viruses, the following visitor restrictions remain in effect until viral illness rates decline:

Visitors younger than 18 years will not be permitted on patient units.
Visitors who have flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, chills or muscle aches, will not be allowed to visit patients.

Guidelines for Children

Children under 18 may visit during regular visiting hours when accompanied by an adult, unless seasonal or special restrictions are in place. Children under 18 must be supervised by an adult and cannot be left unattended. In general, it is a good idea to check with a guest relations team member before bringing a child as a visitor. Children younger than 14 years must be accompanied by an adult other than the patient at all times.

Health and Safety Policies

For your protection, people should not visit if they are sick, especially if they have a sore throat, cold or fever. All IU Health facilities are smoke-free. It is the policy of IU Health that no one, other than IU Health Security Officers or on-duty Law Enforcement Officers, carry or have in their possession a firearm or weapon while in a IU Health facility. Please note that overnight visitors are not permitted in double occupancy rooms.

Family members and visitors may also order a meal from Classic Cuisine by going to Beacon Cafeteria and purchasing a guest meal. Guest meals may be ordered to arrive with the patient’s meal. At IU Health Simon Cancer Center, guests are welcome to order a meal and dine with you in your room. To order a guest meal, guests should visit the Patio View Café and purchase a guest meal. Guest meals may be ordered to arrive with your meal.

Lodging Assistance

If family members and other guests need a place to stay, ProCare Network (a free service) can help you find hotels offering special discounted rates. IU Health and ProCare Network assist staff, patients and families in finding and booking hotels in downtown Indianapolis. To access this service, call 317.974.2039 for assistance (available 24-hours-a-day, seven days per week). ProCare Network will find a place that meets the patient's and family’s individual and financial needs. This could be for a single overnight stay or for several weeks, a standard hotel room or an apartment-like suite. Fair Haven is a nonprofit organization serving IU Health Simon Cancer Center patients and their families. Fair Haven leases several one-bedroom apartments at Lockefield Gardens. Lockefield Gardens is a private apartment complex located across the street from IU Health University Hospital. It's a 5- to 10-minute walk to the cancer center. All applicants must be referred by an oncology social worker. The Son Foundation is a nonprofit that provides lodging needs for cancer patients, caregivers and families. The Son Foundation house is located downtown Indianapolis. It's about a five to ten minute drive to IU Health University Hospital. The Son Foundation house has five private bedrooms, three shared bathrooms, along with several community areas.
