Comprehensive Course Offerings

Houston City College's Continuing Education program is designed to meet the diverse needs of the community, providing opportunities for both personal enrichment and professional development. Serving the community by offering a wide range of courses at reasonable cost, Continuing Education classes are primarily non-credit and non-graded. Most of the classes are taught by community members who are experts in their fields. Classes may range from one evening to a full quarter in length. Costs vary by class.

Continuing Education consists of fast track certificates or courses to quickly train students for a high-demand job. The program offers fast-track certificates and courses designed to quickly train students for high-demand jobs. Programs focus on the key technical and behavioral skills needed in the targeted occupation. Each certificate program includes either industry-recognized certification, State or National occupational accreditation. Classes are offered, day, evening, hybrid, weekend, and online.

Community Health Worker Program

The Community Health Worker program prepares you to work in public health, private health care delivery systems, community-based social service agencies, and healthcare insurance organizations. The Community Health Worker (CHW) program is a vital component of Houston City College's Continuing Education offerings. Community Health Workers provide services to increase wellness and improve access to health services through outreach activities to target populations. This program prepares individuals for roles in public health, private healthcare delivery systems, community-based social service agencies, and healthcare insurance organizations. The program will train you to develop positive relationships with individuals who need assistance and support in developing healthy behaviors, utilizing health resources, and gaining educational support to prevent or alleviate the effects of chronic disease. Emphasis is on health education, health promotion, and community outreach.

Flexible Learning Options and Financial Aid

Classes are offered with flexible scheduling options, including day, evening, hybrid, weekend, and online formats. You may be eligible for state or federal grant funding through the Texas Public Education Grant or the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (these are not loans).
