Beta Alpha Psi and Office Tours: Joining organizations like Beta Alpha Psi can provide exclusive opportunities to connect with accounting firms. Some firms organize office tours, often through Beta Alpha Psi and the FPU campus. Occurring once or twice a year, we introduce you to key staff, play our hilarious 10-key race, and share what it’s like to work in different positions in a public accounting firm. University Requirements: All internship sites are subject to OSPD and university review. Ensure that the internship site meets university standards. Internships at unapproved worksites, for whom paperwork cannot be obtained, will be denied.
Paperwork and Compliance: Completing the necessary paperwork is a critical step in the internship application process. Have current ELA and Risk Assessment paperwork on file with the University. Oversight and Management: A professional staff member will provide oversight and management of your position. Over-site/management of your position provided by a professional staff member. This ensures that you receive proper guidance and support throughout your internship.
Typical Duties: Under immediate supervision, receives training in and assists in the performance of accounting work, including the review and maintenance of accounting records; and performs related work as required. These duties may include assisting with audits, preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and other accounting-related tasks.

Understanding the "Extra-Help" Classification
In some cases, accounting internships are classified as "extra-help" positions.
Definition: Accounting Intern is an extra-help classification used throughout the County to assist departments with their additional workload needs and to provide an internship opportunity to currently enrolled college or university accounting students. Incumbents are temporarily employed to receive training in and assist with the performance of accounting work when necessary.
Purpose: These positions are designed to provide temporary assistance to departments with additional workload while offering valuable internship experience to students.
