Alabama Advantage Scholarship: Investing in Alabama's Future

The University of Alabama demonstrates its commitment to the state's students by offering the Alabama Advantage need-based scholarship. This scholarship is the first of its kind from an Alabama college or university.

What the Scholarship Doesn't Cover

It's important to note that the Alabama Advantage Scholarship does not cover other charges such as fees, room and board, books, etc. Students should factor these expenses into their overall budget.

UAH offers a variety of scholarships to help students afford their education.

Academic Scholarships

All new first-time freshman and transfer applicants are automatically considered for Academic Scholarships, without an additional scholarship application required. UAH recognizes new first-time freshmen who have demonstrated superior academic achievement in high school. Scholarship consideration will be given to all first-time freshmen who are offered admission to UAH.

Competitive Scholarships

All types of students are able to apply for competitive scholarships, which are generously funded by alumni and friends of the university.

The UAH Scholarship Application is comprehensive and used to determine eligibility for all competitive scholarships. Student eligibility is based on a variety of criteria, including academic interests and achievements, special talents, and demonstrated leadership.

External Scholarship Opportunities

Scholarships other than those offered by UAH exist; you may use these third-party scholarships to fund your education. UAH does not fund or assist in the selection process for outside scholarships. As a service to our students, UAH maintains a list of outside scholarship opportunities.

UAH Space Camp Scholarship

Space Camp and The University of Alabama in Huntsville are proud to announce a new scholarship opportunity for outstanding Space Camp graduates. Graduates of eligible Space Camp programs will receive a certificate informing them of their eligibility for the UAH Space Camp Scholarship.

Alabama G.I. Dependents Scholarship

Administered by the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs, the Alabama G.I. Dependents Scholarship helps the dependents of Alabama’s disabled veterans fund their education.

Automotive Manufacturing Scholarships

Thirty-four scholarships are available to residents interested in attending one of Alabama’s community colleges to train for careers in the state’s automotive manufacturing industry. Funding is available to award a total of 34, $4,000 scholarships to students who are enrolled in a program at an Alabama community college that is associated with automotive manufacturing careers.

Alabama Conservation District Employees Association Scholarship

The Alabama Conservation District Employees Association is now accepting applications for six $750 scholarships to be awarded to students who are residents of the State of Alabama and planning to enter college the summer or fall of the year 2023. One scholarship will be awarded in each of the Association's six designated Areas.The applicant should be active in student affairs, show leadership abilities, and must show reasonable financial need. Students who are active in conservation, environmental, and agricultural related activities will score higher. The deadline to receive completed applications in the District Office is 4 pm on March 15, 2023.

Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation Scholarship

The Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation will award up to 67 scholarships for $1,750 each to students majoring in agriculture or forestry at Auburn University, Tuskegee University, and Alabama A&M University.

Alfa Foundation Scholarship

The Alfa Foundation will award 100 $1,000-scholarships for students attending Alabama colleges, universities, and technical schools. Applications for all scholarships are available at AlfaFarmers.org/Scholarships.

Southeast Alabama, Florida’s Emerald Coast and the Mobile Bay Area Scholarship

We are thrilled to announce that we are now accepting appliations from 2022 graduating high school seniors for our scholarship program! We will be giving 25 scholarships worth $1,000 each to deserving high school seniors from our service areas across Southeast Alabama, Florida’s Emerald Coast and the Mobile Bay Area. The application deadline is March 1, 2022.

National Scholarship Programs with Opportunities for Alabama Students

Several national programs offer scholarships that Alabama students can apply for.

Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship

The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship awards 400 high school seniors, college scholarships who intend to study engineering, robotics, or computer science in college, plus paid internship opportunities at Amazon! They will choose 400 high school seniors from across the nation to receive up to $40,000 for college and internship opportunities at Amazon following their first year. Eligible students must be planning to attend an accredited 4 or 2-year college and planning to study engineering, robotics, computer science, or other related fields of study. Applications are due December 15, 2023, by 3:00 pm Central.

ABA Member Bank Scholarship

High school seniors whose parents are employed full-time at an ABA member bank are eligible to apply for the B2L Leadership Scholarship. The $2,000 scholarship may be used toward college expenses and fees, Applicants will be judged on the basis of academic achievement, financial need, character, leadership, and potential for development.

Coca Cola Scholars Program

The Coca Cola Scholars Program awards $20,000 scholarships to 150 change agents across the country. Graduating seniors can apply online at cokeurl.com/Apply2022.

CollegeCounts Scholarship

The CollegeCounts Scholarship can provide funding assistance to Alabama high school students who demonstrate a financial need and are planning to attend an Alabama college. Applicants must be a high school senior or first-time college freshman beginning in fall 2025, have a minimum GPA of 2.75, and have an ACT score of 29 or below. It awards $4,000 for four-year college enrollees and $2,000 for two-year college enrollees.

Dixie Softball Scholarship Program

Applicant must be a senior in high school and must have participated in a DIXIE SOFTBALL program for at least two (2) seasons. Applicant’s ability as an athlete will NOT be a factor in awarding scholarships. Financial need as well as scholastic ability will be factors in determining the award recipients.

Dixie Youth Scholarship Program

The Dixie Youth Scholarship Program is open to high school seniors who have participated in a Dixie Youth Baseball (DYB) program when they were twelve years old or younger. The scholarship was established by the founders of DYB, who desired to develop a college scholarship program that would help former players obtain a college education.

Lockheed Martin Vocational Training Scholarship

Lockheed Martin has launched a new scholarship program that will award up to 150 scholarships. The scholarship will fund degrees at accredited vocational-technical schools to prepare students for careers in technology and/or advanced manufacturing that does not require a bachelor's or advanced degree.

Local Scholarship Opportunities in Pike County, Alabama

Pike County offers several local scholarships to support its students.

Brundidge Chapter for the Troy University National Alumni Association Scholarship

The Brundidge Chapter for the Troy University National Alumni Association will be awarding a $500 scholarship to a deserving student from Charles Henderson High School, Pike County High School, Pike Liberal Arts School, or Goshen High School who will be attending Troy University.

Central Alabama Community Foundation Scholarships

The Central Alabama Community Foundation has scholarship opportunities for graduating seniors of schools located in Pike County, such as the Dr. James H. French Memorial Scholarship, Jay Murphy Scholarship, Jerry L. Bartley Memorial Scholarship, and more. They also have scholarships that benefit children of certain employees with these companies: Alfa, McInnis Construction, and Woerner Farms/Gulf South Transportation.

Dr. James H. French Memorial Scholarship

Founded in 2007 by the estate of Dr. James French, this award benefits graduates of any Pike County high school and is based on academic achievement, school and community involvement, and financial need. In light of Dr. French's commitment to increasing student interest in science and math, preference will be given to students showing proficiency in accelerated math and science coursework. Applicants must have a minimum ACT score of 23 or SAT score of 1130 and a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The deadline for this scholarship is March 1.

Durrell "Duke" Smith Award

The Alabama Parks and Recreation Association District VI affiliates annually present a scholarship in honor of Durrell "Duke" Smith. One winner will be selected from District VI, which is composed of high schools with graduating seniors that have parks and recreation agencies in the counties of Barbour, Butler, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston, and Pike. The winner will receive a plaque and a cash award of $500. The Durrell "Duke" Smith Award recognizes students based on academic achievement, sports involvement, civic involvement, and community service.

Grider/Gissendanner Family Dual Enrollment Scholarship

The Grider/Gissendanner Family Dual Enrollment Scholarship was established to give back and help impact the lives of high school seniors that work twice as hard as the average high school student. Senior pursing a degree in nursing/ or EMT. Minimum of 3.0 GPA.

Humbled Hearts Incorporated of Troy University Scholarship

Humbled Hearts Incorporated of Troy University is pleased to offer a scholarship for student-athletes who attend a high school in the Pike County area.

Jean Lake Memorial Art Scholarship

In order to commemorate the accomplishments of the late Jean Lake, the Troy Arts Council has established the Jean Lake Memorial Art Scholarship. The scholarship, in the amount of $1000, is to be awarded annually to a graduating senior from a high school in the City of Troy or Pike County.

Pike County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship

The Pike County Cattlemen’s Association will award four (4) $1,000 scholarships each year to a qualified high school senior. One will be awarded at each high school in the county (CHHS, GHS, PCHS, & PLAS). This scholarship may be used at any post-secondary school of higher learning (trade school, junior college, or university).

Pike County Cattlewomen's Association Scholarship

The Pike County Cattlemen's Association will award one to three $2,000 scholarships each year to a student from each high school in the county. The scholarships will be awarded to students who : (1) is a resident of Pike County, Alabama, (2) demonstrates academic excellence as determined by the Pike County Cattlewomen's Association Scholarship Committee, and (3) is/was a member of the 4-H Club, FFA, or Jr. Cattlemen (to be given priority consideration).

Pike County Farmers Federation Scholarship

The Pike County Farmers Federation will award a $2,000 scholarship each year to a qualified student who plans to pursue a degree in an agriculture-related field.

Scholarships at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College (LBWCC)

LBWCC offers a range of scholarships to support its students.

LBWCC Institutional and Foundation Scholarships

All students completing the LBWCC Institutional and Foundation Scholarship Application will be considered for the Presidential Academic, Presidential Technical, and LBWCC Foundation Scholarships based upon their stated type of program and if they have completed all aspects of the scholarship application. Some LBWCC Foundation Scholarships are based on financial need.

J.O. Colley Memorial Scholarship

Any student who has had a parent killed or permanently and totally disabled in an on-the-job accident is eligible.

Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarship

The Jimmy Rane Foundation was established with the purpose of sending deserving students to college.

National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship

Eligible senior NHS members must have a verified NHS student account and plan on attending an accredited US College or University in order to submit an application.

National Wild Turkey Federation Dr. James Earl Kennamer Scholarship

Applicant must be a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, complete an application which can be found here with all required information, and turn in an essay (topic is on the application) as well as three letters of recommendation.

Philip Francis Lutzenkirchen (PFL) Character Scholarship

Established in Philip's memory, the PFL (Prepared For Life) Character Scholarship program equips outstanding young people with the tools and lessons he or she needs to leave a lasting and profound legacy through mentor development, education and scholarship.

Scholarship Stewardship and Renewal at the University of Alabama

The University of Alabama has some of the most generous scholarship opportunities in the state for qualifying Alabama students.

Application Process

Step One: Apply for admission and scholarships. In-state students may apply via the UA Undergraduate App for free. Your admission application includes your scholarship application for many scholarship opportunities.

All students who have submitted an application and all supporting documents by the appropriate deadlines are evaluated holistically, based on academic and non-academic information provided on their admission application. Academic components considered include high school GPA and academic honors.

Students may apply for additional competitive scholarships not included in the admission application through ASAM. Students will gain access to ASAM via myBama once they are admitted. Only scholarships for which a student may be eligible will appear in ASAM. To apply for these potential scholarship opportunities, a student must be admitted by the competitive scholarship deadline for their applicable semester (listed below) and have completed the scholarship applications in ASAM by that deadline.

Maintaining Scholarship Eligibility

Students must maintain at least a cumulative 3.0 UA GPA and earn at least a cumulative 67% of the total UA credit hours attempted to remain on automatic merit and competitive scholarships awarded through Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.

The cumulative UA GPA and UA credit hours includes all courses taken through the University. Attempted credit hours are defined as any credit hours for which a student is enrolled after the add/drop registration period has ended. Earned credit hours are defined as any credit hours for which a student earns credit for a course.
