Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)

This program prepares individuals to play an essential role in the care of clients in hospitals and long-term care facilities. Nursing assistants provide basic care at the bedside, ensuring the safety and comfort of patients. The program includes a 12-hour preparation component for the Texas Certified Nurse Aide exam.

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)

Medical assistants perform routine clinical and administrative duties under the direct supervision of physicians or other healthcare professionals. Their responsibilities include taking medical histories, recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures, preparing patients for examination, collecting and preparing lab specimens, and assisting with diagnostic examinations. Upon completion of the program, students earn a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA).

Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA)

Medical front office workers are vital to the smooth operation of medical offices, making the first impression on patients. Their duties include greeting and scheduling patients, handling bookkeeping, calling patients to remind them of appointments, managing billing, answering and routing calls, making transactions, and organizing paperwork. Students who complete the program earn a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification.

Associate Professional in Human Resources (aPHR)

This certificate program is designed for individuals beginning their HR careers and non-HR managers who manage people. It consists of a series of modular courses covering functions typically found in contemporary HR departments, culminating in an aPHR certification.   3. Do I need immunizations to enroll in the Medical Assistant class? Yes, you do need immunization records to enroll in a Medical Assisting class.

Academic and Career Support Services

Academic Support (Lab)

Academic Support (Lab) is aligned to the specific training based on the student’s education and skill level. This class includes reading, writing, English language arts, math, financial literacy, digital literacy such as Microsoft Office, and English as a Second Language as needed to help students prepare for college or a career.

Career EASE: Career Exploration and Skills Enhancement

Career EASE is the second step (transition) to being successful in a technical training program. It is designed for students to review parts of Smart Choice, a requirement prior to this course, and realize the expectations and skills needed to complete college courses. This course allows students to explore the basic skills needed by contextualizing instruction to the technical area in which they intend to get a certification.

Career Readiness & Experiential Learning Services (CRELS)

Career Readiness & Experiential Learning Services (CRELS) serves SPC students, alumni, and surrounding community members by providing career readiness education/resources, career-guiding experiential learning programming, and strategies to navigate the hiring process.

A Real-Life Success Story

San Antonio (May 6, 2022) - The Alamo Colleges District Board of Trustees, Chancellor Dr. Marie's ability to work and earn wages as a hairstylist was negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. After hearing about Train for Jobs SA, she applied for and was accepted into the program… She started her pathway to success with San Antonio College's Empowerment Center, through which she earned her high-school equivalency (GED). Once Marie earned her HSE, she chose to continue her training with our Medical Assisting (MA) program.
