Education Credit Union: Serving Amarillo and Beyond
Education Credit Union (ECU), based in Amarillo, Texas, has been a cornerstone of the Texas Panhandle since 1935, building a legacy of trust, service, and financial empowerment. While its name reflects its origins in serving local educators, its membership is open to anyone who lives, works, or worships within a 10-mile radius of its locations. ECU provides a comprehensive suite of financial products and services, convenient access, and a commitment to community involvement.
Comprehensive Financial Services
ECU offers a full array of financial products and services, including savings and investment options and borrowing solutions such as auto loans and mortgages. As a not-for-profit financial institution, ECU reinvests its earnings back into the credit union, allowing it to offer members great dividends, competitive rates, and outstanding financial products with low or no fees.
Membership Benefits and Eligibility
As an ECU member, you have access to the full array of financial products and services that the credit union offers as well as the ECU Best Value Guarantee. Additionally, as partial owners of the credit union, members have the opportunity to vote for the ECU Board of Directors. Financial Education and Community Involvement
ECU prioritizes financial education, offering resources and tools to help members achieve their financial goals. ECU maintains a service and support goal of connecting with our community and of empowering and inspiring others to make wise financial decisions and beneficial life choices. In a typical year, our financial education team completes nearly 500 presentations to over 15,000 students in our service area. Education Credit Union understands the importance of teaching students of all ages about personal finance. We have created our Smart Money financial literacy presentations for grades K-12, college, and adults. These lessons incorporate real-world scenarios and activities. With a commitment to community involvement, ECU actively engages through initiatives like the ECU Foundation and partnerships with organizations like the WT Alumni Network. ECU cares deeply about the financial wellness of its membership too. We offer free financial counseling in English and Spanish to help members navigate budgeting, debt management, and long-term planning.

Security Measures and Fraud Prevention
ECU has taken measures to assist in preventing debit card fraud and keeping your records and financial information secure. Our debit card processor monitors our complete debit card portfolio for “out of the normal spending patterns”. When our processor detects an “out of the normal spending pattern,” they will call you to verify the debit card activity. To avoid having your card potentially restricted while traveling, you may wish to notify the credit union if you will be going out of town. We will gladly notify our card processor of the dates you will be out of the area, so any transactions conducted there won’t be considered “out of the normal spending pattern”. If you are a member of Education Credit Union, you should contact us, and we will close affected accounts or place a notification on accounts that have not been directly affected. It is important that you notify all of your credit card issuers and other creditors. The Federal Trade Commission has an ID theft affidavit, a form for victims to provide to creditors and credit-reporting agencies. To further protect yourself, you should contact one of the three major credit-reporting agencies to place an alerton your credit bureau report at no charge to you. Each fraud unit will share this information with the other two agencies.
Understanding Credit Unions
A credit union is a not-for-profit organization owned by its members. Policies and procedures are set and monitored by a volunteer Board of Directors. Each credit union member has one vote and an equal voice in the management and direction of the credit union. Funds on deposit at ECU are privately insured by NCUA up to $250,000 per membership. You can have as many accounts as you would like to own. Most banks are insured up to only $100,000 per depositor. NCUA insures accounts, not individuals, which allows for an unparalleled level of protection for ECU members’ deposits.
Mobile App Account Deletion
The Google Play Store has implemented a requirement for Education Credit Union to provide our members with the ability to request the removal of their app accounts and any associated data. Upon execution of this request, Education Credit Union will delete all associated data held in our digital and online banking system. This data will no longer be accessible or available to any party.
Routing Number and Direct Deposit
Education Credit Union’s routing number is 311376782. To establish Direct Deposit, you must contact your employer for the appropriate forms.
Contacting Education Credit Union
For any inquiries, you can complete the Contact Form on the ECU website, and an ECU representative will contact you right away. ECU has eleven conveniently located branches to meet our ECU team members.
