American Leadership Academy: A Comprehensive Overview of Tuition-Free Education and Values

American Leadership Academy (ALA) is a tuition-free public charter school that provides a challenging, innovative, and results-oriented education. Founded in 2005, ALA operates on the principle that parental partnership is critical to student success. With a focus on academic excellence and character development, ALA schools aim to prepare students for success in college, career, and life.

The R.A.I.S.E. Foundation

ALA's educational approach is grounded in its R.A.I.S.E. values: Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Service, and Excellence. These values are integrated into every aspect of the school's environment, from classroom lessons to extracurricular activities. ALA believes that education is more than just textbooks and reading lessons; it is an experience that nurtures students' natural talents and helps them become well-rounded individuals and active members of their community.

Tuition-Free Public Charter School

As a public charter school, American Leadership Academy (ALA) is tuition-free, supported by both state and public funding. This allows ALA to offer its educational programs to a wide range of students without the barrier of tuition costs. Charter schools have more flexibility than traditional public schools.

New Campus: ALA Radiance

American Leadership Academy is expanding with the opening of ALA Radiance, a Pre-K-12 tuition-free public charter school in Fall 2026. Located in the Radiance neighborhood near Warner Road (West Warner Avenue when the school opens) and Meridian Road, ALA Radiance will serve families in the East Mesa and new South Apache Junction areas. The campus is situated in southwestern Apache Junction, in the Radiance neighborhood just past Mesa's Eastmark community. The school is conveniently located near the intersection of West Warner Road and South Meridian Road, which serves as a major crossroad between Mesa and Apache Junction. ALA Radiance will welcome all ALA Mesa Pre-K-6 teachers, faculty, administrators, and staff as they relocate to the new campus.

Before- and After-School Programs

ALA offers before- and after-school programs that turn downtime into hands-on learning time for K-6 students.

Prorated Tuition for New Enrollments

Understanding that every family’s situation is unique, ALA offers prorated tuition for new enrollments. This way, families only pay for the days their child actually attends. Tuition is due on the first of every month. Non-school days, such as breaks, are not included in the monthly tuition. Early Release days are also not included into the tuition, as they require additional hours of care.

A Focus on Leadership and Character Development

Students at American Leadership Academy learn the values and principles of leadership, character development, accountability, respect, and physical well-being with academic excellence as ALA’s primary focus. ALA strives to offer all of its students the best education possible. American Leadership Academy accepts all students - no matter what personal and familial challenges they're facing. American Leadership Academy's ELL services support students and families that speak more than one language. ALA is proud to offer a comprehensive and customized gifted curriculum and learning environment for students with gifted or accelerated capabilities.

Community and Environment

American Leadership Academy has built 21 successful schools in Arizona where families have come to recognize the school as a leader in education. ALA strives to create a learning environment that allows every student to thrive.
