Navigating the American Public University System Student Portal: A Comprehensive Guide

American Public University System (APUS) encompasses both American Public University (APU) and American Military University (AMU). This guide serves as a comprehensive resource for students navigating the APUS student portal, drawing upon the official APUS Student Handbook and other relevant information. The Student Handbook is the primary source for all APUS policies and procedures.

Understanding the Student Handbook

The Student Handbook is the official repository of all APUS policies and should be used as a student's main resource for admission policies, registration policies, extension and course grading policies, and all other policies that may impact a student of APUS. APUS policies and procedures apply to all students attending any APUS member institution which includes the following: American Public University (APU) AND American Military University (AMU).

Scope of the Handbook

APUS policies and procedures apply to all students attending any APUS member institution, including American Public University (APU) and American Military University (AMU). This ensures consistency and clarity across the entire university system.

Changes to the Handbook

APUS reserves the right to change policies, procedures, and programs as necessary. Policy and procedural changes will be posted directly to the Student Handbook and may also be posted inside a student's campus and in student and department newsletters. Students should regularly consult the handbook for the most up-to-date information. The entire handbook can be downloaded in PDF format.

Accessing Your Student Ledger

Your student ledger can be accessed through the "My Student Account" link located under the "Finance" menu in the ecampus. This ledger provides a detailed overview of your financial standing with the university.

Information Available in the Ledger

The ledger will list any balances you may owe or any credits on your account. It will also list the courses you are registered for, the cost of those courses, and the amount and type of funding you have or anticipate receiving. Even if your student ledger shows a zero balance, it is important to investigate further. This may be because pending funds may not have been applied to the balance. When viewing your student ledger, go to the account detail for the term in question. There it will detail the courses, their cost, and if there is an outstanding balance. If you click on View Details once inside the account detail for that term, you will see what funds were applied specifically to each course.

Understanding Account Details

The account detail also shows disbursed aid, payments received, credit balances, and anticipated funding. If you are waiting to receive financial aid, the financial aid will show as pending until the aid is received. This allows you to track the status of your financial aid and understand how it is being applied to your account.

Ordering Transcripts

APUS uses Parchment for transcript ordering. To ensure accurate updates to a student's transcript, it is recommended that they observe a 24-hour waiting period before placing an order for a transcript. The waiting period should follow any of the following events:

  • The posting of a final grade to a student's academic plan.
  • The successful conferral of a student's academic program.
  • The completion of a student's transfer credit evaluation.

Ordering Instructions for Current Students

Once a student has logged in to their account, they should navigate to the Academic Plan & Forms tab, then under the University Forms column, select the Order APUS Transcripts link.

Ordering Instructions for Alumni

Once logged in, navigate to the Alumni Services tab, then under the University Forms column, select the Order APUS Transcripts link.

Transcript Ordering Portal

Students will be directed to our transcript ordering portal, where they will be prompted to create a Parchment Learner account. From there they will be directed through the ordering process. This streamlined process ensures secure and efficient transcript delivery.

Unofficial Transcripts and Degree Plans

APUS does not offer unofficial transcripts. Students may print a copy of their downloadable degree plan from their ecampus for an unofficial view of their current courses in their current or most recent program with APUS. This downloadable degree plan provides a convenient way to track your academic progress.

Important Reminders

They are required to submit all required admission documents listed in their Document Log to have a Complete record status. We cannot post conferrals before the official conferral date.
