Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, also known as Amrita University, is a multi-campus private deemed university in India. Historical Overview
The university began as Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore, in 1994, a college affiliated with Anna University. In 1998, the Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi, and Amrita Hospital, Kochi, were established. By 2002, additional campuses with engineering and business schools were opened in Bengaluru and Amritapuri, affiliated with state universities. In 2003, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was recognized as a deemed university by the UGC. Expansion continued with a school of agricultural sciences in Arasampalayam, Coimbatore, in 2017, and an engineering school campus in Vengal, Chennai, in 2019.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is managed by Mata Amritanandamayi Math, under the leadership of its founder and chancellor, Mata Amritanandamayi, and Vice-Chancellor Dr. P.
