Amy Witherite Scholarship: Requirements and Impact
The Amy Witherite Scholarship, also known as the "Making a Difference" college scholarship fund, provides financial assistance to students who have demonstrated leadership in their schools and communities. Founded by Amy Witherite in 2014, the scholarship aims to alleviate the rising cost of higher education, which often forces students to delay or forgo college altogether. The Witherite Law Group has given out over $250,000 in scholarships to 150 Georgia and Texas students over the last six years. This article delves into the requirements, impact, and overall significance of the Amy Witherite Scholarship.
Overview of the Scholarship
The "Making a Difference" scholarship was created in 2014 by Amy Witherite, founder of Witherite Law Group, with the goal of providing financial assistance to deserving students. The scholarship program was created as an example of how we put people first at Witherite Law Group. The firm, specializing in trucking accidents, has a strong commitment to community support, exemplified through its investment in the educational aspirations of young individuals.
Aim of the Scholarship
The primary aim of the Amy Witherite Scholarship is to provide financial relief to students and their families, enabling them to pursue higher education without the overwhelming burden of financial constraints. Due to economic challenges and situations, the prospect of attending college is a seemingly unattainable dream for many students. The scholarship helps relieve much of the financial burden many of our students’ families face when applying for college.
Eligibility and Requirements
To be eligible for the Amy Witherite Scholarship, students must meet certain criteria and fulfill specific requirements. These requirements ensure that the scholarship supports students who have demonstrated leadership, academic potential, and a commitment to their communities. Students submitted an application, transcripts and a personal essay. They were then interviewed by the Witherite leadership staff.
Academic Standing and GPA
Recipients who maintain a 2.5 GPA and take at least six credit hours are eligible to renew the reward. Each student will receive $2,500 to help with college and will be renewed annually if the student maintains at least a 2.0 GPA and takes at least 12 credit hours. A strong academic record, as evidenced by transcripts, is a fundamental requirement.

Leadership and Community Involvement
One of the key criteria for the scholarship is demonstrated leadership in schools and communities. The scholarship seeks students who have actively participated in extracurricular activities, taken on leadership roles, and contributed positively to their communities.
Application Process
The application process typically involves submitting an application form, academic transcripts, and a personal essay. The essay allows students to articulate their aspirations, leadership experiences, and the impact they hope to make in the world.
Interview
Following the initial application review, shortlisted candidates are often invited for an interview with the Witherite leadership staff. This interview provides an opportunity for the selection committee to assess the candidates' character, aspirations, and suitability for the scholarship.
Scholarship Amount and Renewal
The Amy Witherite Scholarship typically awards each student $2,500 to help with college. The scholarship is renewable annually, provided the student maintains a specified GPA (usually 2.0 or 2.5) and takes a minimum number of credit hours (usually 12 or 6).
