Andrew Williamson: The Rising Star of UCF Baseball

Andrew Williamson emerged as a standout player for the University of Central Florida (UCF) Knights baseball team. His performance in 2025 showcased his potential, and he continues to garner attention as a prospect for the MLB Draft.

A Catalyst for the UCF Offense

In 2025, Andrew Williamson proved to be a vital component of the UCF offense. While statistics alone don't paint the whole picture, Williamson's contributions went beyond mere numbers. He ranked second on the team in batting average and led the Knights in key offensive categories, including doubles, home runs, and RBI.

Defensive Prowess in the Outfield

Williamson's skills extend beyond his offensive capabilities. He is also a strong defender in the outfield. Over two seasons with the Knights, he has maintained a .995 fielding percentage, committing only one error. This defensive reliability adds another dimension to his value as a player.

Cape Cod League Experience

During the summer, Williamson honed his skills in the prestigious Cape Cod League, playing for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. In 49 at-bats, he recorded 13 hits and scored 13 runs. His contributions included three doubles, three home runs, and 12 RBI. He also showcased his speed and base-running ability by stealing six bases in 15 games.

Areas for Improvement

While Williamson has demonstrated a well-rounded skillset, there is always room for improvement. One area where he can focus is his base-stealing ability. Although he stole six bases in the Cape Cod League, he has only seven total steals in his two seasons at UCF. Improving his efficiency on the basepaths would make him an even more dangerous offensive threat.

MLB Draft Prospect

Williamson's performance has not gone unnoticed by professional scouts. He is currently ranked 91st on MLB Pipeline's list of top 100 draft prospects for the 2026 MLB Draft. This recognition highlights his potential to play at the next level.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Season

Williamson and the UCF Knights have their sights set on a return to the NCAA Tournament after finishing the 2025 season with a 29-26 record. Their 2026 season is scheduled to begin with a three-game series against the Siena Saints at John Euliano Park in Orlando, from February 13-15.

Bethesda Big Train

Prior to the college baseball season, Williamson played for the Bethesda Big Train. In a game against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts, despite the team's loss, Williamson hit a home run, showcasing his offensive power. He was hitting .413 with four home runs at the time. He acknowledged the team's early lead but emphasized the need to maintain momentum and avoid complacency.
