Saving Money on Your Visit to the Aquarium of the Pacific: A Guide to Student and Other Discounts

The Aquarium of the Pacific, the largest aquarium in Southern California and second largest in the state, is a popular destination, home to more than 12,000 animals across more than 100 exhibits. It was even named one of the 16 best aquariums in the country. Located in Long Beach, it adds to the city's attractions, which include art galleries, restaurants and bars, whale watching, a Japanese garden, a nature center, and historical sites like ranchos and the Queen Mary. While the Aquarium of the Pacific can be relatively affordable, with tickets ranging from $35 for kids and $45 for adults, the costs can add up, especially for families. Fortunately, there are several ways to save money on your visit.

Discounts for Students

Many universities in Southern California offer discounted Aquarium tickets for their students. Students should check with their school’s student union or ASI office to find out if this option is available to them. Taking advantage of these student discounts can significantly lower the cost of admission.

Military Discounts

Discounted tickets may be purchased in advance at any MWR/ITT office on base. This is a great option for military personnel and their families to enjoy the Aquarium at a reduced price.

Union and Professional Organization Discounts

Many Southern California unions and professional organizations offer their members discounts on Aquarium tickets. Check with your union or professional organization to see if they participate in this program.

Explore LA Program

The Aquarium has partnered with the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) to offer discounts to library cardholders through its Explore LA Discover & Go program. From June through August, LAPL cardholders in good standing can get adult tickets for $40 and children's tickets for $32. September through December (as well as the last few days of May), tickets are discounted even more to $36 for adults and $29 for kids. This program provides a substantial discount for those with a library card.

Limited Time Discounts

From time to time, Aquarium of the Pacific tickets are offered for a discounted price at other businesses. Keep an eye out for these special promotions to save even more on your visit.

Package Deals

Consider purchasing package deals that combine a visit to the Aquarium with other local attractions. For example, you can visit the Aquarium and the Los Angeles Zoo for one price: $63.00 for adults (saving $8.95) and $51.00 for children (saving $5.95). Alternatively, you can visit the Aquarium and the Queen Mary for $76.46 for adults (saving $4.49) and $62.96 for children (saving $2.99). These package deals offer cost savings compared to purchasing tickets for each attraction separately.

Convention Discounts

If you are attending a convention in the area, you may be eligible to receive a discount on admission to the Aquarium of the Pacific. This offer is typically valid for one week before and after the convention, with a limit of one discount per badge.

Tips for Purchasing Tickets

When purchasing tickets online, you do not need to make a separate reservation, as you will be asked to select a time during the ticket purchase. Your tickets are not valid until the hour of your reservation and will be accepted the remainder of that day. If you already have a ticket or coupon, present your reservation at your selected time to the staff onsite at the Aquarium. If you need to purchase tickets with a coupon/discount, you will be directed to do so at the ticket windows. If you are a member, you must reserve the date and time of your visit, and each guest in your party must have a reservation.
