The Vital Role of Asian Student Unions: Fostering Community, Culture, and Empowerment
Asian Student Unions (ASUs) play a crucial role on college and university campuses across the United States. They serve as vital support systems, cultural hubs, and platforms for advocacy, addressing the unique needs and experiences of Asian and Asian-American students. These organizations provide a safe space, promote cultural awareness, and empower students to become leaders and agents of change.
Creating a Safe and Inclusive Community

The overarching mission of many of these organizations is to offer a welcoming environment where students feel supported and understood. The Florida Asian American Student Union exists to empower & educate students about APIA history, issues, and professional skills so that there is a pipeline of student leaders from Florida universities to the community at large. The Florida Asian American Student Union aims to achieve its goals through leadership summits, civic engagement, and collaborative programming. FAASU is to become a reliable resource for all APIA students in Florida that can provide personal & professional skills for students at any level.

The Asian American Student Union (AASU) was founded by Jason Ly in the year of 1991. Ly felt that the Asian population of K-State needed a strong voice to convey to the community. The aim is to continue this tradition as their voice is needed now more than ever. The purpose of this organization is to foster unity and support for all Asian and Asian-American students on campus; to provide awareness of Asian cultures to Kansas State University faculty, administrators, students and community; to provide a means by which Asian and Asian-American students can become more visible to the Kansas State University community; and to create an atmosphere that promotes and teaches the equality of diverse people. The aim is to be a principal platform that allows Asian Americans to speak up and educate the masses around them, and while doing so, leading, mentoring, empowering, and inspiring those who can't find a voice of their own.
AASU will serve to encourage and promote the civic engagement of the Asian and Asian-American community, especially within the student body at the Florida State University. It shall serve as the nucleus of a network to improve the opportunities and living conditions of the Asian community.
Networking and Collaboration
Many ASUs also facilitate networking opportunities and collaborations with other organizations, both on and off campus. This allows students to connect with professionals in their fields of interest, build relationships with other student groups, and expand their reach within the broader community.

Our affiliates consists of Asian student registered organizations from different universities all over Florida. They create networking opportunities between organizations and promote a solid foundation for their growing leaders.
