The Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance (AHBCUAA) stands as a testament to the enduring power and impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The AHBCUAA was founded in January 2004, the brainchild of James Devine from the Metro-Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Florida A&M University. This collaborative vision materialized in 2005 with the creation of The HBCU Alumni Mixer. Held in conjunction with the Annual Battle of the Bands, the Mixer quickly became the Alliance's first signature event, drawing alumni from various HBCUs and laying the foundation for future initiatives.

Marck Dorvil, also of the Metro-Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Florida A&M University, proposed the idea of a 5K run fundraiser. Condra Magee, a fellow FAMU alumna, suggested pitching the idea to the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance to host the event. This idea became the catalyst that launched the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance 5K HBCU Run/Walk.

National Reach and Impact

Since its inception in 2004, the AHBCUAA's reach has extended beyond Atlanta, with affiliate chapters established in Washington, DC, and Philadelphia, PA. Through its various fundraising efforts, the Alliance has consistently provided financial assistance and scholarship funds to HBCUs and their students.
