Understanding ACC's Academic Guidance Teams
ACC utilizes a proactive advising model, assigning students to Area of Study academic guidance teams. These teams consist of Advisors and Success Coaches who specialize in specific academic disciplines. After students begin courses with ACC, they are assigned an Academic Guidance Team member based on their declared program.
The Role of Your Academic Guidance Team
Your Academic Guidance Team is your primary point of contact for academic advising. They can assist you with:
- Staying on track with your program requirements
- Selecting appropriate courses
- Making informed decisions about your educational and career goals
- Reviewing and discussing your class schedule

- Understanding transfer options
- Addressing any concerns you may have about your academic progress

To locate your assigned Academic Guidance Specialist, log in to MyACC. Academic guidance team members are available to support students by appointment in person or online.

Leveraging Self-Service Student Planning
ACC provides various tools to assist you with course selection and planning, including Self-Service Student Planning.
Planning and Registering for Classes
You will use Self-Service Student Planning to plan and register for your classes. Self-Service allows you to view class availability in real-time. Click Back to Plan & Schedule and click the right arrow > until the correct term displays. The Planned course will show in a yellow box to the left, click Register.
Understanding Registration Requirements
Registration is available on the days listed in the Academic Calendar. ACC reserves the right to change registration dates. You are not officially registered until you pay your tuition in full (or have arranged a payment plan and made your first payment) and, if needed, meet the meningitis immunization requirement. If you do not meet these requirements before the tuition payment deadline, you will be deregistered (“dropped” from your classes). If you are deregistered, you are not guaranteed to receive your previous schedule if you re-register.
Resolving Student Holds
A student hold may prevent you from registering for classes. Allow up to 24 hours for a student hold to be removed from your record after you have completed the requirement.

Auditing Courses
Note about auditing courses: admitted students may audit classes if space permits. Audit registration is allowed only during the final day of schedule changes (add/drops). Tuition and fees for audited courses are the same as those for courses taken for credit.
Exploring Faculty Advisor and Mentors
Faculty advisors and mentors are also available to support you through your degree progression. Make an appointment through your instructional department to meet with faculty. All faculty have office hours, which are times set aside just to meet with students outside of class. Consult your syllabus to determine your instructor’s office hours and plan to meet during that time.

Instructional Program Advising
Certain instructional programs require new students to be advised through their program before registering for classes, such as Culinary Arts and Health Sciences. Instructional programs are willing to provide support prior to registration.
Campus Safety and Security
Austin Community College produces an Annual Security Report as required by the Clery Act. Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), select individuals are required to report crimes. reporting.
