And to me, it’s like, OK, one day, you’re going to realize that. And that comes from a place of like humbleness and confidence, not really cockiness.”

College Career

Southern Illinois University and West Florida Argonauts

Reed initially enrolled at Southern Illinois University in 2018 as a freshman quarterback after committing from St. Augustine High School. After redshirting his freshman year, Reed transferred to the University of West Florida in the summer of 2019, seeking greater opportunities for playing time.

At West Florida, Reed quickly made a name for himself, leading the Argonauts to the NCAA Division II national championship in 2019. He went 13-1 as a starter, throwing for 4,089 yards and 40 touchdowns. In the title game win over Minnesota State (12/21/19), Reed finished with a school and NCAA Championship single-game record 523 passing yards and tied both organization marks with six passing touchdowns. He was 33-of-54 on the day with his completions tying the finals mark and his attempts setting a new top effort. His stellar 2019 season included four games with over 300 passing yards and three more with 275 or more. After a year without football due to COVID-19, he returned in 2021 to amass 3,375 yards and 38 touchdowns.

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

Reed's success at West Florida led him to Western Kentucky University, where he filled the void left by Bailey Zappe. Starting 26 games for the Hilltoppers, he passed for more than 8,000 yards and 71 touchdowns. Reed led all of college football in passing as a junior, throwing for 4,744 yards, ahead of notable quarterbacks like Michael Penix Jr., Caleb Williams, and Drake Maye. His statistical achievements include leading all FBS quarterbacks in passing yards during the 2022 season with 4,744 yards. He also topped Conference USA in passing yards (4,744 in 2022; 3,340 in 2023) and passing touchdowns (40 in 2022; 31 in 2023).
