Unlocking Creativity: A Guide to Autodesk Student Accounts - Benefits and Eligibility
Autodesk provides a wide range of powerful software and services for design, engineering, and entertainment. For students and educators, access to these tools is often available through the Autodesk Education plan, offering a valuable opportunity to learn and develop skills using industry-standard software. This article explores the benefits of an Autodesk student account and the eligibility requirements for accessing this plan.
What is the Autodesk Education Plan?
The Education plan grants eligible students and educators free one-year, single-user access to Autodesk software and services for educational purposes. This access includes the current version of the software, plus up to three prior versions where available, allowing users to work with the tools most suited to their projects and learning needs. The software and services accessed through the Education plan can only be used for purposes directly related to learning, teaching, training, research, and development.
Benefits of an Autodesk Student Account
An Autodesk student account unlocks a wealth of benefits, empowering students and educators with the tools they need to excel in their respective fields.
- Free Access to Professional Software: The most significant benefit is free access to a wide range of Autodesk software, including industry standards for 2D and 3D CAD, BIM, and more. This includes software for 2D and 3D CAD, allowing users to draft, annotate, and add field data to their drawings online via a web browser or mobile device.
- Access to Multiple Versions: Users can access the current version of the software, plus up to three prior versions (where available), ensuring compatibility with different projects and educational resources.
- Cloud Services: The Education plan includes access to Autodesk cloud services, such as Autodesk Drive, which can improve the way you design, visualize, simulate, and share your work. These cloud services offer tools for pre-design and schematic design, cloud-based co-authoring in Revit and Civil 3D, and more.
- Learning Resources: Autodesk provides a wealth of learning resources, including tutorials, documentation, and community forums, to help users get the most out of the software.
- Certification Opportunities: Autodesk offers certifications that can validate your skills and knowledge, enhancing your career prospects. For students and educators, this foundational certification is focused on 3D design basics. Numerous states have included Autodesk Certifications on their lists of approved industry-recognized credentials through their departments of education and workforce services.
- Community Engagement: As an ambassador, you will be participating in professional development, attending events, and engaging with your community in person and virtually.
- Curriculum Support: Autodesk partners with organizations like Haas to deliver complete curricula, such as the Haas and Autodesk Fusion-CAD, CAM, and CNC curriculum for 2.5-axis milling.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Autodesk Education plan, individuals must meet certain criteria:
- Students: Students must be enrolled at a qualified educational institution. They may participate in the Education plan to conduct thesis or master's work. If certain conditions are met, students participating in a company apprenticeship program may install or use software accessed through the Education plan on a company machine.
- Educators: Educators must be employed by or be contractors of a qualified educational institution.
- Qualified Educational Institution: A qualified educational institution is one that has been accredited by an authorized governmental agency for the primary purpose of teaching enrolled students. Training centers and retraining programs are not considered qualified educational institutions. Therefore, users attending such courses are not eligible for the Education plan. Autodesk Certified Instructors (known as ACI) who are affiliated with an Authorized Training Center (ATC) or an Autodesk partner that is also an ATC are not eligible for the Education plan. An ATC can provide Autodesk Certified Instructors with access to genuine licenses which can be used for training purposes.
- Minimum Age Requirement: Eligible students and educators must meet the minimum age requirement.
- Verification Process: Autodesk uses SheerID, a third-party verification services provider, to verify eligibility for educational access. As part of this process, you may be asked to provide documentation of enrollment or employment at a qualified educational institution.
