Unlock Your Global Potential: Baruch College's Study Abroad Programs

Baruch College offers a wealth of study abroad programs designed to broaden students' perspectives and enhance their academic and professional development. These programs provide immersive international experiences, fostering a global mindset applicable to both local and international issues.

The Value of International Study

Full immersion in an international setting helps students absorb divergent policy processes and schools of thought, fostering the attainment of a global perspective to bring home and apply to local issues.

Marxe School's Global Network

The Marxe School has direct relationships with institutions across four continents giving our students an opportunity to engage in an exceptional range of international study programs. These programs bring together students and faculty from different countries in one classroom making it a unique intercultural experience.

Application Process: A Two-Step Approach

Embarking on a study abroad journey through Baruch College involves a dual application process:

  1. Host University Application: A direct application will be to the host university.
  2. Baruch Study Abroad Office (SAO) Application: The second application will be to the Baruch Study Abroad Office (SAO).

To learn more about the process and to get access to the SAO application portal you are required to attend Study Abroad Advising Session using this link.

Academic Credit and Program Participation

Several options exist for earning academic credit while studying abroad:

  • Pre-Approved Courses: Some of the courses listed below are already listed in the SAO application portal. They are marked below with a corresponding “PAF XXXX” number.
  • Petitioning for Equivalency: If you don’t see a “PAF XXXX” next to the course description it means you will need to petition for PAF equivalency request and approval to earn academic credit for it.
  • Non-Credit Participation: If you do not wish to earn academic credit for the courses listed below, you can still participate. In this case you will receive a certificate of completion/attendance from the host university.

Important Considerations Before Committing

Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, all final approvals to study abroad (credit and non-credit) are given once study abroad to your destination has been approved or reconfirmed. You should carefully consider making any substantial non-refundable financial commitments until it is confirmed that your study abroad will run.

Financial Aid and Scholarships: Making Study Abroad Accessible

You might be surprised to hear that you can use financial aid to study abroad! API is accepting Early Bird scholarship applications for all programs! Also, API offers a number of other category scholarships, as well as options from 3rd party sources to help you prepare to go abroad!

Academic Programs International (API) awards millions of dollars in scholarships every year to students just like you! Visit our scholarships page to review our Early Bird Scholarship, our Academic Scholarship, our Opportunity Scholarship and the Financial Aid Boost Scholarship for those who need extra support.

Internship Opportunities: Bridging Academia and Career

Get a jump on your professional future through career exploration and skills development. Students can view our internship postings and filter for internships during a particular term, within a particular academic area of study or career interest area. We know that internships are not one-size fits all, so we work with companies of all sizes to offer paid and unpaid open positions that are individual, research, project-oriented, and team based.

Exchange Programs: Immersive Academic Experiences

What are Semester Exchange Programs? Exchange programs are based upon signed agreements between Baruch and its partner universities abroad. If you participate in an exchange, you will study for one or two semesters as a visiting student at one of our partner universities. With some exceptions, you will study alongside regular degree candidates at the host institution. All of our exchange partners, even those whose language of instruction is not English, offer a number of university courses taught in English.

Exchanges operate on the basis of a reciprocal one-to-one exchange. If you are nominated to study on an exchange, you pay your normal semester CUNY tuition and fees to the Baruch Bursar. Your tuition and fees pays for the education of the student from our partner university who attends Baruch while you are attending her/his university; the tuition paid by the student from the partner university attending Baruch pays for your education there.

Support services for exchanges are provided by the host institution’s international student services office. Exchanges are best suited for students who wish to be and are capable of being self-reliant, and who wish to be more thoroughly “immersed” in the foreign academic institution.
