Baylor University Scholarships: A Comprehensive Guide

Baylor University offers a variety of scholarships to help students finance their education. These scholarships fall into several categories, including merit-based, need-based, and program-specific awards. Understanding the requirements for each type of scholarship is crucial for prospective students.

Merit-Based Scholarships

Baylor University awards merit-based scholarships based on a comprehensive review of an applicant's academic record and their completed Baylor application file. Eligibility for a merit-based scholarship is determined without requiring an additional application. All applicants are considered, including those who apply as test-optional students. A significant portion of Baylor students, over 84%, receive merit-based scholarships. These scholarships are finalized upon admission.

Need-Based Financial Aid

To be considered for the maximum amount of need-based financial aid, applicants must submit both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) and the CSS Profile. Baylor's FAFSA® code is 3545, and its CSS Profile code is 6032. For the upcoming academic year, students should submit both applications by the priority deadline to be considered for the most available funds.

The CSS Profile typically opens on October 1, and the FAFSA opens later in December. There are specific deadlines for different admission plans:

  • Freshman Early Decision and Early Action Priority Deadline: November 1
  • Final Deadline to submit the CSS Profile for all Freshman & Transfer Admission Plans: February 1

Submitting the applications as soon as possible is advisable if the final deadline is missed, to be considered for any remaining funds. After submitting the FAFSA® and CSS Profile, it may take a few weeks for the information to be reflected in the goBAYLOR account. Applicants can check the status of their CSS Profile. As long as it is considered "Submitted," no further action is needed.

University Scholars Program

The University Scholars major is a highly selective program within the Honors College that requires a separate application. Students in this program work with mentors to craft an individualized educational journey made up of two or more concentrations based on their intellectual passion and vocation. The degree plan includes a required reading list that consists of works of literature, politics, theology, and philosophy, which must be completed by the students' junior year. These topics are discussed in small, seminar-style classes. Students must complete an exit interview in the spring of their junior year based on the required readings.
