BCIT Learning Hub Services: Empowering the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals
The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) plays a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare by providing world-class health science education. Addressing the challenges of transitioning from student to confident professional, BCIT offers a comprehensive range of learning hub services designed to support and empower aspiring healthcare providers. These services encompass various aspects of training, infrastructure, and ongoing support, ensuring that students and professionals alike have the resources they need to excel in their respective fields.
BCIT's Commitment to Healthcare Education
BCIT's dedication to healthcare education is exemplified by its ambition to establish one of the largest health science education simulation centers in North America. The institute aims to provide exceptional training to over 7,000 future healthcare providers annually. This commitment is further reflected in the design and functionality of the new Health Sciences Centre (HSC), which prioritizes student wellness and energy efficiency.
The Learning Hub: A Multifaceted Approach
The BCIT Learning Hub encompasses a variety of services designed to cater to the diverse needs of its students and professionals. These services can be broadly categorized into:
IT Infrastructure and Support
The BCIT Leadership Team, including the Executive Director for IT and the Directors of functional groups, is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of BCIT's IT infrastructure. The IT Infrastructure team manages and optimizes all systems and networks, including Internet access, wired and wireless networks, phone systems, servers, and disk storage. This ensures that students and faculty have reliable access to the technology they need for learning and research.
User Services
User Services serves as the primary interface between BCIT and the community, providing essential support and guidance to students, faculty, and staff. This team addresses inquiries, resolves technical issues, and facilitates access to various BCIT resources.

Enterprise Applications (EA)
Enterprise Applications (EA) supports the College’s key enterprise systems in addition to dozens of other complementary applications and utilities. This ensures that students and faculty have reliable access to the technology they need for learning and research.
Workday Team
The Workday Team is responsible for managing, maintaining, improving, and curating Barnard's Workday application in close collaboration with the functional departments that depend on that system (Finance, Human Resources, Provost's Office, and Beyond Barnard).
Clinical Education Workshops
BCIT provides a series of engaging, interactive, and relevant clinical education workshops. These workshops are designed to meet the learning needs of graduates, equipping them with the practical skills and knowledge necessary for success in their careers.
New Graduate (NG) Program
BCIT supports newly graduated nurses through the New Graduate (NG) Program. All Providence Health Care NG nurses (RN, RPN, LPN) hired into full-time or part-time (minimum 0.70 FTE) positions for a minimum of 6 months are automatically enrolled into the NG Program. Once hired, the Patient Care Manager schedules the new graduate to attend the NG Orientation, where they meet the NG educator and learn about the program.
Standardized Training and Onboarding Program
All newly hired health care support workers must complete a provincially standardized training and onboarding program, provided by their employer. This program ensures that all healthcare support workers have the foundational knowledge and skills required to provide quality care.

Financial Support
BCIT understands the financial challenges that students may face. The institute covers 100% of wages, tuition, and books during the accelerated 9 to 12-month training program for eligible students.
The Health Sciences Centre (HSC): A Hub for Collaborative Learning
The new Health Sciences Centre (HSC) at BCIT is designed to foster collaboration and innovation in healthcare education. The 106,000 square foot urban site presented a unique challenge-a building with four frontages. The Commons is composed of three bleacher-style tiered staircases, the Amphitheatre, the Study, and the Garden. These formal spaces each intentionally support three learning typologies: large lecture-style gatherings, group work, and solitary study.
The HSC is an energy-efficient, low-carbon emission building that places student wellness at the forefront. Its design promotes a healthy and supportive learning environment, encouraging students to thrive both academically and personally.
