Exploring Undergraduate Programs at BINUS University

BINUS University, officially established on August 8, 1996, stands as a prominent private university in Indonesia. Its roots trace back to the establishment of Modern Computer Course, a computer training institute, in 1974. Over the years, BINUS has evolved into a leading institution of higher education with a strong emphasis on technology, innovation, and global engagement. The main campus of the university is located in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. Most of its campuses are located within the area of Greater Jakarta Region.

A Historical Overview

The journey of BINUS University began with the Modern Computer Course on October 21, 1974. Recognizing the growing demand for computer education, the institution developed into the Computer Engineering Academy (ATK) on July 1, 1981, offering programs in informatics and informatics management. This marked a significant step in BINUS's commitment to providing quality education in the field of technology.

Further solidifying its position, ATK achieved registered status and changed its name to AMIK Jakarta on July 13, 1984. The following year, AMIK expanded its offerings by introducing a course in accounting computerization on July 1, 1985. The institution's dedication to excellence was recognized when it received the Best Computer Academy Award from the Ministry of Education and Culture on March 17, 1986.

The next phase of development saw AMIK Bina Nusantara forming STMIK (College of Informatics and Computer Management) Bina Nusantara on July 1, 1986. This collaboration led to the establishment of an educational institution offering diploma (D3) and undergraduate (S1) programs on November 9, 1987. STMIK Bina Nusantara gained equal status for all courses on March 18, 1992. Finally, on August 8, 1996, Bina Nusantara University was officially established, marking a significant milestone in its history. STMIK Bina Nusantara then joined BINUS UNIVERSITY on December 20, 1998.

ISEP students can take courses from various BINUS campuses and departments, applying terms and conditions.

Exchange students are allowed to take min 12 and max 24 credits per semester. One semester runs for 13 Lecture weeks, 2 weeks of Mid-term Exam period and 2 weeks of the Final Exam period. To attain a good grade, students are expected to gain 50 minutes per week classroom attendance for each credit (1 SCU), and at least one or two hours of self-learning (explore, discuss and present the material etc). Please understand that the academic system is quite different. Classes are usually lecture-based, instead of discussion or group work. Classes are often much larger than those found at Lake Forest College. Grades are based heavily, at times almost entirely, on one end-of-term exam, though some courses will also offer a midterm. The teaching style in Indonesian universities is teacher-centric. Courses will mostly be lecture-style.
