Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education: A Comprehensive Overview
The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE), also known as the Telangana Intermediate Board, plays a vital role in shaping the academic landscape of the state. Established in 2014 after the separation of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh, the board regulates and supervises the intermediate education system in Telangana. Its headquarters are located in Nampally, Hyderabad.

The Honourable Minister of the State for Secondary Education holds the position of chairman and secretary of the TSBIE, while the secretary to Government, Secondary Education serves as the vice-chairman. Mandate and Responsibilities
The TSBIE has a wide-ranging mandate that encompasses various aspects of intermediate education. These include:
- Curriculum Development: Prescribing the syllabus, textbooks, and curriculum for Classes 11 (Intermediate 1st year) and 12 (Intermediate 2nd year). The syllabus of language subjects and optional subjects is structured by concerned Subject Committees constituted by the Board.
- Conducting Examinations: Organizing and conducting the Intermediate Public Examinations for both 1st and 2nd-year students. The Intermediate Public Examination is being conducted since 1978-79 both at the end of 1st year course and at the end of 2nd year course. Earlier the Public Examination was only at the end of 2nd year.
- Certification: Issuing certificates to students who successfully complete the Intermediate Public Examinations.
- Affiliation: Granting affiliation to educational institutions that meet the board's standards and criteria.
- Academic Development: The Board of Intermediate Education, Telangana, Hyderabad is offering a multitude of academic programmes. With a view to give greater impetus to the academic aspects of the board, a separate academic wing called "Educational Research and Training Wing" was created.
Examination Structure and Evaluation
The Intermediate Public Examination is conducted at the end of both the 1st and 2nd-year courses. The percentage of pass marks in each paper is 35. The division in which the candidates are placed is decided on the basis of their passing all the papers in the 1st year and in the 2nd year.
Academic Year and Examination Schedule
The Telangana Intermediate Board conducts the Class 11 and Class 12 examinations in March/April, every year. The Intermediate 1st year (Class 11) exams will be held from 6th May 2022 to 23rd May 2022. This year, the Intermediate 2nd year examinations will begin on 7th May 2022 and continue till 24th May 2022.

Students need to pass the Class 11 and Class 12 examinations with high marks to be promoted for higher education in the stream and university of their choice. The Telangana Intermediate 1st Year or Class 11 lays the foundation for learning in Class 12. The Telangana Intermediate 2nd year or Class 12 is a crucial year for students. Students need to pass the Intermediate 2nd year public examinations with good marks to secure a seat for higher education.
Performance Trends
Every year, over 4 lakh students appear for the Intermediate 2 (Class 12) public examinations conducted by the Telangana Intermediate Board. Over 4 lakh students appear for the Telangana Board Class 12 public examinations every year. But 2019 saw a steep decline in the number of students when only 3,82, 534 students appeared for the exam. The pass percentage has slowly but consistently increased over the past few years. In 2020 and 2021, the TSBIE cancelled the Intermediate 2nd year exams and declared all students passed.
