Discovering Boise: A Guide to Community Education Programs
Boise, Idaho, offers a wealth of community education programs designed to enhance the lives of its residents. These programs, offered by Boise Parks and Recreation, Zoo Boise, and other institutions, cater to diverse interests and age groups, fostering a sense of community and lifelong learning.
Boise Parks and Recreation: Nurturing Curiosity in Urban Spaces
The Boise Parks and Recreation community education program aims to enhance the enjoyment of Boise's parks and open spaces. It fosters awareness and understanding of the vital role these areas play in our lives. The program strives to nurture curiosity by presenting opportunities to explore the natural world within our urban and suburban settings. Residents are encouraged to visit the webpage often to view current event listings, program highlights, self-guided activities, and other educational opportunities.
One notable offering is the "Field Guide to Boise's Birds." Birds can be found in just about every setting in Boise, from urban microparks to the sprawling foothills that border our northeastern edge. They visit backyard feeders, perch in low shrubs and on tall structures, swim in our river, lakes, and ponds, nest in our trees and soar overhead. A variety of habitats in and around the city support and attract hundreds of species. Developed with the beginning birder in mind, the guide highlights 99 species that are common to Boise parks, neighborhoods, and open spaces. Local experts, including professionals and hobbyists, collaborated to create a guide that is functional, informative, and a showcase of stunning local images donated by area photographers. Hard copies of the guide can be purchased at the Parks and Recreation Administration Office.
