Housing Options
As a participant on an Arcadia program, you are guaranteed housing. WorldStrides students participating in this program will choose beachside housing or on-campus housing. Students will work directly with WorldStrides to secure their choice. You will be able to review detailed housing descriptions when you open the Housing Preference form in the WorldStrides portal. The form will outline your options and provide further details about amenities, roommates, and typical commute. Students are billed for the lowest tier of housing costs and will pay the remaining balance (if any) directly to WorldStrides. The cost of the housing options varies greatly.
Cultural Immersion
Studying abroad at Bond University provides ample opportunities for cultural immersion. WorldStrides staff also arrange a wide assortment of cultural immersion activities throughout the semester. It includes fees charged on students’ U-Bill (WorldStrides program fee, Study Abroad Administrative Fee, and mandatory Iowa Regents CISI Travel Insurance), as well as out-of-pocket expenses. Actual out-of-pocket expenses will vary from individual to individual. Quoted estimates are conservatively high, yet realistic. UI students may also qualify for WorldStrides Affiliate Scholarships. Interested students should make an appointment with the designated UI Study Abroad advisor for Australia to discuss the program and the application process.
Application Process
• Complete the UI Online Application for Study Abroad. Applicants will be charged a $50 non-refundable application fee. Students are also encouraged to complete the Health Preparation Guide for International Travel form with their medical practitioner. This document is intended to help you plan for your medical needs abroad. US passport holders must obtain a student visa from Australia in order to participate in this program. US passport holders should follow the visa application instructions provided by WorldStrides. Your passport should be valid for at least six months after the conclusion of your semester to satisfy Australia’s entry requirements.
In order to prepare for your time abroad, you are required by the University of Iowa to complete two orientations. These are in addition to WorldStrides' pre-departure and onsite orientations. You are required to complete the International Programs online “Education Abroad Pre-Departure Orientation” course distributed through ICON prior to departure. This orientation is mandatory for all students going abroad under the auspices of the University of Iowa. It covers many practical matters about living overseas, such as health and safety, communication, money, goals and much more. This orientation will be facilitated by your study abroad advisor and will cover content specific to your program and host country. It could be conducted in a group setting or one-on-one depending on your type of planned activity abroad.
