Brandeis University Scholarships: A Guide for International Students

Brandeis University is known for its commitment to providing financial aid and scholarship opportunities to international students. This article provides a detailed overview of the scholarships available, the application process, and other financial considerations for international students planning to study at Brandeis University.

Financial Aid for International Students

Brandeis University offers a competitive program of scholarships and financial aid for international students. It is important to note that financial aid is not available to international students who do not receive aid upon admittance. Students must reapply for financial aid each year, and the amount received will depend on the family's financial circumstances.

To apply for financial aid, international students must complete the CSS Profile by the stated priority filing dates. Additional documentation may be required upon request. Students must complete the CSS Profile application online and submit documentation of prior-year parent income and assets directly to the university's office by the required deadline.

Merit-Based Scholarships at the School of Business and Economics

The Brandeis University School of Business and Economics automatically considers every graduate applicant for merit-based scholarships. There are no separate applications for scholarship consideration; a candidate’s application for admission will automatically be reviewed for the awards listed below. Candidates will be notified at the time of admission if they have received a merit-based scholarship. Most admitted candidates receive partial scholarship funding to put towards their tuition due to the holistic application review process.

Types of Merit-Based Scholarships

  • Achievement Awards: Awarded to exceptional students who show strong achievement and aptitude for the highly regarded programs at the Brandeis University School of Business and Economics. These awards are available for both full- and part-time study.

  • Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) Scholarship: Recognizes students in the MA, Accelerated MA, MBA, MSBA, MSF, and dual degree programs who are members of Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) with a tuition scholarship in the amount of 25 percent.

  • Volunteer Service Scholarship: Recognizes applicants who have had significant volunteer experience in an organization such as Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Commonwealth Corps, or Teach for America with partial- to full-tuition scholarships.

  • Yellow Ribbon Program: This award supplements Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits and signifies Brandeis University's commitment to supporting veterans who are pursuing higher education. The Yellow Ribbon Program scholarship (including the VA match), combined with Brandeis scholarships, federal aid, and other estimated financial assistance, cannot exceed the cost of attendance. Recipients must remain in good academic standing while receiving the award and will be eligible to receive the award in subsequent years, provided that Brandeis remains a participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Donor-Supported Scholarships and Fellowships

Thanks to the support of generous donors, several scholarships and fellowships have been established to support students. These include:

  • **Earle W. *****
  • **Catherine L. *****
  • **Milton W. *****
  • **Paul F. *****
  • **Stephen J. *****
  • Steven F. Scholarship: Recognizes outstanding students from Japan who have studied, or are currently studying at esteemed Japanese universities.

Other Scholarship Opportunities

  • Wien International Scholarship Program: This program is designed for international undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional academic promise, significant financial need, and a strong commitment to community service and global engagement. It provides full or partial tuition awards to a limited number of exceptionally qualified students.

While most applicants receive scholarships, the majority of scholarships are partial awards.

Enrollment Deposit

If admitted, students need to submit a non-refundable enrollment deposit to secure their spot in the class. The deposit is \$1,000 for specialized master's programs and \$1,500 for the MBA program. This deposit goes towards the tuition payment and is not an additional fee. Admitted specialized master's students in rounds one and two can split their deposit into two payments: \$500 for deposit one and \$500 for deposit two. Admitted MBA students in rounds one and two can split their deposit into two payments: \$1,000 for deposit one and \$500 for deposit two. Due dates will be shared on the admissions letter.

Payment Plans

Brandeis partners with Nelnet to offer a monthly payment plan as a method to spread the cost of a semester over several months. Payments are required to be made on the scheduled due date, in the methods allowed by Nelnet, and must be paid directly to Nelnet.

Proof of Funding for International Students on F-1 Visa

Students who plan to study on an F-1 visa must show proof of funding for one full year of tuition as well as applicable costs like housing, medical insurance, food, books, supplies, and transportation. For the 2024-25 academic year, students will need to show funding of approximately \$34,155 in addition to their program’s tuition for one year of study (less any applicable scholarship for the 2024-25 academic year).
