Bridge House College: A Pathway to Global Universities

Bridge House College (BHC), located in Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria, is a co-educational sixth-form college that serves as a bridge for students seeking university education both locally and internationally. Accredited by the British Council to conduct Cambridge examinations and recognized as a UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admission Services) centre, Bridge House College offers a structured environment for students aged 16 to 20 to prepare for higher education. The college was founded in 2004 to address the challenges Nigerian students faced when pursuing universities abroad, such as limited counseling and inconsistent preparation for international examinations.

History and Establishment

Bridge House College was established in 2004 with the goal of providing a clear and reliable pathway for Nigerian students seeking university admission both locally and internationally. Before the establishment of institutions like BHC, many Nigerian families struggled with fragmented information about overseas admissions. The founders aimed to create a school that combined British academic structures with Nigerian cultural values, making the transition to foreign universities more seamless. Starting with just eight students at 1, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, 2nd Avenue, Ikoyi, the college initially focused on preparing students for UK universities. In 2007, it expanded its scope to include other destinations such as the US, Canada, UAE, Ireland, Ghana, and Nigeria.

Location and Environment

The college is situated in Ikoyi, a prestigious district in Lagos known for its serene environment, safety, and greenery. This location is central to the college's brand, attracting expatriates, multinational families, and Nigerian parents who value safety and structure. The college's campus site is always open to potential parents who would like to assess where their ward(s) would be studying.

Academic Programs

Bridge House College offers several pre-university pathways designed to match the requirements of universities around the world. These include:

  • A-Levels: A British two-year program designed for students aged roughly 16-18.
  • University Foundation Programme (UFP): A one-year program that provides an accelerated route to university for students who have already completed their O-Level examinations. Students applying to this programme must have completed SS2.
  • American University Placement: Designed for students who have finished SS2 or its equivalent, these programs serve students pursuing admission to American universities.

Admissions dates for UFP are in September and late entry in January. A minimum of 5 credits in SSCE WAEC, NECO or Cambridge O-Level or other equivalent examination is required for admission into the University Foundation Programme at BHC.
