Understanding the Broward College FCLE Exam

The Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) is a State of Florida-developed assessment designed to measure a student's civic literacy competency. What is the Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE)?

Satisfying the Civic Literacy Requirement

According to Florida State Rule 6A-10.02413, degree-seeking students must satisfy the civic literacy requirement based on their degree program and current effective term.

Students can meet the civic literacy requirement through various means, including:

Other Assessments at Broward College

Broward College offers various assessments, but they do not fulfill the civic literacy requirement. These include:

  • Computer Skills Placement (CSP): This assesses students' digital literacy, but no credit is awarded for successful completion.
  • Brigham Young University (BYU) Foreign Language Achievement Testing Services (FLATS): This is a foreign language competency test. No credit is awarded for successful completion of the FLATS.   • The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Writing Proficiency Test (WPT): This is a foreign language competency test. The ACTFL WPT is not available to take at a BC Testing and Assessment Center. No credit is awarded for the successful completion of the ACTFL WPT. The only version of the ACTFL accepted by Broward College for foreign language competency requirement purposes is the ACTFL Writing Proficiency Test (WPT).
  • UExcel Exams: Excelsior College no longer offers UExcel exams after the Summer 2022 trimester and is no longer accepting new exam registrations.
