Devodric Bynum: From High School Standout to Professional Football

Devodric Bynum's journey in football is a testament to his athletic talent and dedication. From his early days in Dallas, Texas, to his current career in professional football, Bynum has consistently demonstrated the skills and determination necessary to succeed. Early Years and High School Success

As a Dallas, Texas native, Devodric's early career began at Lincoln High School, with head coach Jamal Adams. There, his stats demanded attention, leading his high school with 507 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 2016. Totaling his defense stats for the same year, Devodric roped 62 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble. Then added 15 carries for 200 yards and five touchdowns, six combined kickoff and punt return touchdowns his high school senior year. This landed him as a three-star recruit by Scout and 247Sports, chosen for Scout's All-Midlands Team, and No. 27 wide receiver in the state of Texas by Scout.

Before signing with Houston, Bynum closed out his high school career with 71 receptions for 1,086 yards and 15 touchdowns, to go along with 53 carries for 448 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

College Career

Following his high school career, Bynum was one of 18 athletes to join head coach Major Applewhite and the Houston Football program (17 from high school ranks) as a newcomer on the 2016 roster, before joining NE Oklahoma AM and transfer for recruitment onto the UAB team, where he sits currently as Draft Scout/NCAA College Football Cornerback, No. 20. Had the best season of his pro football career with 35 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 11 PBU, one sack and one forced fumble.

UAB’s recent win (41-21) against North Texas in 2022 was touted the best game of Bynum’s UAB career, with stats for the game totaling eight tackles, two tackles for loss, two pass break-ups, one strip sack (on the first possession of the game) and a forced fumble, recovered in the red zone, This awarded Bynum to be named as Defensive Player of the Week by The Conference USA league office in November of 2022. His reasons for the honor were his having been a major factor in UAB becoming one of the top pass defenses in the United States.

Redshirt Junior in 2021

Appeared in 10 games in the season, altogether, and recorded 12 tackles during that time, including a matched career-high of four versus Rice. During his junior year, he recorded his first career sack versus Rice.

Redshirt Junior in 2020

Appeared in all nine games for UAB and racked up a total of 15 tackles with one TFL. Had a career-high three tackles on Oct. 17 versus WKU, then Bynum claimed four pass breakups, including a career-high of two at Rice on Dec. 12, 2020.

As a sophomore, Bynum played in all 14 games of the season and made one start vs. No.

Professional Career

Bynum went undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft.

At 5’11” and weighing in at 195 pounds, Devodric’s 27-total solo tackles garnered nation-wide recognition, and ultimately projected through intensive performance assessments, his suitability for the NFL by scouts.
