As a graduate, you transition from a student with full access to campus resources to an alumnus with a unique set of privileges. This article explores the various benefits and services available to BYUI alumni, helping you make the most of your connection to the university.
Staying Connected and Networking
Networking is crucial for career advancement and professional influence. BYUI provides several avenues for alumni to connect with current students and fellow graduates:
- BYUI Connect: This platform utilizes the Church Educational System Network, offering a valuable tool for alumni and students to network, share experiences, and explore career opportunities. Alumni and current students can visit BYUI Connect to connect and reach out to both students and Alumni from BYU-Idaho.
- On-Campus Career Events: BYU-Idaho hosts inspiring career events and networking opportunities for both current students and alumni. Join BYU-Idaho for inspiring on-campus career events and networking opportunities. These events are for both current students and Alumni.
- Alumni Directory: Connect with past and current students at Brigham Young University-Idaho.
- "The Rixida" Yearbooks: Alumni at BYU-Idaho can find annual yearbooks, “The Rixida”, from Ricks College from the years 1917-1999.
Academic and Technological Resources
While alumni access to some campus resources is limited, several key academic and technological benefits remain:
- Canvas Access: Alumni retain access to Canvas as long as their account is active, allowing them to revisit course materials, stay updated on university news, and potentially participate in online learning opportunities. Alumni will have access to Canvas for as long as their account is active.
- BYUI Wi-Fi: Retirees can still access BYUI Wi-Fi. BYUI requires a logon and thus provides security encryption for the connections.
- myBYUI Portal: Alumni will have limited access to the myBYUI portal.
- BYUI Visitor Wi-Fi: BYUI Visitor is designed for Visitor Access. They are limited to Internet access: the Learning Management System (LMS or Canvas) is blocked from that network.
It's important to note the resources that alumni no longer have access to:
- Office 365 Apps: Alumni do not have access to Office 365 apps.
- OneDrive: Alumni do not have access to OneDrive or any of the files stored there as a student after graduation. Please take the time to back up any and all files you may want to keep.
- Google's G-Suite: Google's G-Suite is under a similar license to OneDrive, meaning that after you graduate, you will lose access to all files associated with your account stored on Google's cloud.
- BYU-Idaho WiFi or Computers: Alumni no longer have access to BYU-Idaho WiFi or computers.
- Adobe Applications: Alumni do not have access to any Adobe applications. This includes any files that were created and uploaded to the Adobe Creative Cloud using your BYUI account. Adobe access is always removed at the end of the semester. If you have more Adobe classes, you will be added again at the start of that semester.

- Long Term Disability Insurance: Long Term Disability insurance provides a monthly benefit when your ability to earn an income is interrupted by a covered injury or illness.

Madisen Busenbark: Strengthening Families Through Knowledge and Action
Madisen Busenbark, a graduate with a degree in Marriage and Family Studies, shares her passion for strengthening families. She chose her degree because of her strong love for family and her understanding that strong family relationships influence society.
- Favorite Aspect of Studying at BYU-Idaho: The constant opportunities to get involved in strengthening the family, whether it was through teaching a workshop, writing papers converting the research I was learning into terms others would be able to understand, or volunteering with the Child and Family Advocacy Society.
- Biggest Challenge: Time management. She overcame it by putting God’s things first.
- Advice to Students: Be proactive! If you seek to get involved, you will be, and when you’re engulfed in good things, you’ll find great joy in the work.

Peter Beckman: Helping Families Have Healthy Relationships
Peter Beckman, a graduate in April 2016, is pursuing a Master's in Couples, Marriage & Family Therapy at Texas Tech University. He works with individuals, couples, and families in the Family Therapy Clinic, helping them to have healthy relationships.

- How BYU-I Helped: One of the more essential things BYU-Idaho taught me was to be comfortable and patient collaborating within group work/projects.
- Advice to Students: My advice would be to just enjoy the blessings and opportunities that you get at BYU-Idaho.
- Biggest Challenge in the Field: The biggest challenge, and the professors here at Tech talk about it all the time, is to set aside time for "self care".
Belinda M. Tanner: Advocating for Children and Families Through Law
Belinda M. Tanner, a Child Development graduate, pursued a law degree and now works as an attorney in Idaho Falls, handling family law cases. She uses her Child Development degree to tackle issues involving children from a different angle than other attorneys.
*What is something that you were grateful for at BYU-I?"Something I am grateful to BYU-I for was the honor code. The standards that we live up to… [are] a big step towards professionalism… I had several professors tell me that as potential employers and judges visited the school, it is important to look and act in a professional manner."

- Advice to Students: There are many ways that you can influence the world, whether it is teaching your own children, or helping those in your community, or influencing society. Figure out how you can make a difference in the world and then go out and do it.
Belinda's favorite cases are the ones where she gets to work to keep families in together.
Rebecca Odd: Shaping the Fashion World with Apparel Entrepreneurship
Rebecca Odd, an alum of BYU-Idaho's Apparel Entrepreneurship program and technical designer for Downeast Clothing, shares how the program influenced her career:

- How the Program Influenced Her Career Path: The Apparel Entrepreneurship program turned out to be a perfect program for my interests and eventual career! The program provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the fashion industry, from design concepts to production processes, which has been instrumental in my current role. It encouraged me to think outside the box, take risks, and innovate in the ever-evolving fashion world. Further, the entrepreneurial mindset instilled in me during my time at BYU-Idaho has helped me navigate the challenges and opportunities in the office and the broader realm of the fashion industry.
- Favorite Aspect of Studying at BYU-Idaho: One of my favorite aspects of studying at BYU-Idaho was the close-knit and supportive community. The faculty and my peers were incredibly encouraging and committed to helping me succeed. This environment fostered creativity and collaboration, allowing me to explore my passion for fashion design in a nurturing and inspiring atmosphere. It's this sense of community that has continued to influence my professional journey and my approach to work within my career.
