Caltech Diploma Frame Options: Preserving Your Achievement

Graduating from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is a significant achievement, marking the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. Preserving and showcasing your diploma is a natural desire, and selecting the right diploma frame is an important step. This article explores the various diploma frame options available to Caltech graduates, helping you choose the perfect way to display your accomplishment with pride.

Graduation Preparations and Mementos

Before delving into diploma frame options, it's helpful to understand the graduation process and other mementos available to Caltech graduates.

Grad Fair

The annual Grad Fair is a one-stop event designed to assist graduating students with all their commencement needs. At the Grad Fair, students can:

  • Order their cap and gown.
  • Sit for an official graduation portrait.
  • Get questions answered by the Registrar's Office and other supporting offices.
  • Order graduation announcements and other memorabilia.

Regalia

Graduating students are required to order their regalia (caps, gowns, stoles, and house tassels) online. Pre-ordered regalia is typically available for pickup before the Commencement ceremony. Commencement gowns are made from recyclable material and can be dropped off at the Caltech Store after the ceremony for recycling.

Additional Mementos

In addition to regalia, graduates can purchase various mementos to commemorate their time at Caltech. These include:

  • Senior Portraits: GradImages is available to take cap and gown senior portraits or family portraits before the Commencement ceremony. Portraits are taken on a first-come, first-served basis, and photos can be purchased later.

Once delivered, simply remove the backing of your frame, insert your valuable degree, and hang it for all to see using a Level-Lock Hanging System.

Parking

Parking is available in lots and structures throughout the campus. The Caltech Parking Office typically does not charge for guest parking on Commencement days.

Seating

Caltech Commencement is not a ticketed event. Seating on Commencement day is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to space constraints, there are approximately four guest seats available per graduating student in the general guest seating area. Guests are asked to be mindful of this limitation and courteous to other guests. Saving seats is not permitted. Guests are encouraged to fill rows completely, avoiding empty seats, in order to maximize limited seating. Balloons, signs, banners, flags and other similar objects which obstruct views and create hazards are not permitted underneath the tent. Air horns and other noisemakers are prohibited.

Indoor Seating

For overflow guests without a seat on Beckman Mall or for those who prefer an air-conditioned option, multiple indoor livestream viewing locations are available on campus: Browne Dining Hall, Red Door Cafe (inside the Hameetman Center), and Broad Cafe.

Accessibility

Accessible Seating is located at the front and along the sides of the Beckman Mall guest seating area, facing the stage. This seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the limited size of the accessible seating area, only one person may accompany the individual requiring accessible seating. For hearing impaired guests, an ASL interpreter will be positioned on the west side of the guest seating area.

Accessible Passenger Drop Off is located on the south end of Lot #11. The area is accessible from Michigan Avenue, south of Del Mar Boulevard. Accessible Parking is available at each parking structure on campus with marked accessible spaces. Transportation on campus is available from Campus Security. There will be an officer stationed at the Accessible Passenger Drop Off area on Commencement morning. The officer can call for an electric cart to transport a person to the Commencement site. American Sign Language interpreters will be positioned on the west side of the guest seating area. Event staff will be available to assist guests trying to locate accessible seating or seats in proximity to the ASL interpreter. Large-Type Programs are available at the information booth, located at the far south end of Beckman Mall. Assisted Listening Devices are available from the information booth, located at the far south end of the Beckman Mall. Wheelchairs are available for use on the site only to transport people to/from their seats.
