Campbell University Baseball: A Tradition of Fighting Camels
Campbell University's baseball team, known as the Fighting Camels, has a rich history and a promising future. As the NCAA Division I baseball team representing Campbell University, the Fighting Camels have established themselves as a competitive force, particularly in recent years. The team's home games are played at Jim Perry Stadium, a venue named in honor of Jim Perry, a former Campbell Baseball and Basketball player. Before 2012, the stadium was known as Taylor Field.
Conference Affiliations and History
The Fighting Camels have a history of conference affiliations, reflecting their growth and competitiveness. From 1983 to 1994, they competed in the Big South Conference. Subsequently, they moved to the Atlantic Sun Conference before ultimately joining the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) in the 2024 season. This latest move signifies a new chapter for the program, pitting them against a fresh set of rivals and challenges.
Early Success and NCAA Tournament Appearances
The Campbell Fighting Camels have made six NCAA tournament appearances. An early highlight in the program's history came in 1990. Despite a regular season record of 11-31, the Fighting Camels demonstrated resilience and determination by sweeping the Big South Conference tournament with a 4-0 record. This improbable run earned them their first-ever appearance in the 1990 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament, marking a significant milestone for the program.
2014: Big South Champions and Columbia Regional
The 2014 season was another watershed moment for the Fighting Camels. They clinched the Big South tournament championship, securing a spot in the Columbia Regional of the 2014 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. During the regular season, the Camels showcased their talent with an impressive 40-19 record, including an 18-8 mark in conference play.
In the Columbia Regional, the Camels faced tough competition. They began with a loss to the host team, South Carolina, by a score of 5-2. However, they bounced back in the elimination game, defeating the ODU Monarchs 4-1 in 12 innings, marking their first NCAA tournament victory. Their run came to an end in the following game, as they were eliminated by South Carolina with a score of 9-0.

2018: Athens Regional
The 2018 season saw the Fighting Camels once again capture the Big South tournament championship, this time at Liberty University. This triumph earned them a berth in the Athens Regional of the 2018 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. During the regular season, the Camels posted a 35-24 record, including a strong 21-6 showing in conference play.
In the Athens Regional, the Camels faced the challenge of playing the host team, Georgia Bulldogs, in their first game, where they suffered an 18-5 loss.
2019: Regular Season and Tournament Champions, Greenville Regional
The 2019 season was a year of unprecedented success for the Fighting Camels. They captured both the Big South Conference regular season championship and the Big South Conference baseball tournament title, which was held at Segra Stadium in Fayetteville, NC. This dominant performance earned them a spot in the Greenville Regional of the 2019 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament.
In the Greenville Regional, the Camels made a statement by defeating local rival North Carolina State 5-4 in the opening game. They continued their winning ways by defeating Quinnipiac 9-8 in walk-off fashion in the second game. However, their run came to an end in the regional finals, where they were defeated by East Carolina in two consecutive games, 10-2 and 12-3. During the regular season, the Fighting Camels went 32-19, with a 19-7 record in conference play, and finished with an overall record of 37-21.
2021: At-Large Bid
The Camels received their first-ever at-large bid in the 2021 campaign, being the first Campbell University athletics team to do so.

2026 Season Outlook
Looking ahead, the Campbell baseball team faces a challenging and exciting schedule. According to Coach Marx, the program believes that development happens through challenge. As such, the schedule features seven opponents that went to postseason play, including College World Series Runner-up Coastal Carolina and Super Regional hosts Duke and North Carolina. The Camels will compete against 19 different opponents and play a newly formatted conference slate this season.
Campbell opens its 2026 campaign at Jim Perry Stadium hosting Cal Poly (Feb. 13-15) for the first time in program history before welcoming in-state foe East Carolina for a midweek matchup (Feb.). The Camels will then be on the road for a three-game series at Troy (Feb. 20-22) and midweek contest at Coastal Carolina (Feb. 24). The squad concludes its non-conference series slate as it welcomes Wright State Feb. 27-Mar.
The Camels will open CAA play hosting William & Mary (Mar. 6-8) before facing UNC Charlotte (Mar.). The squad hits the road for its first CAA road trip traveling to NC A&T (Mar. 13-15). Campbell returns to conference play on the road against Towson (Mar.). In April conference play, the Camels will travel to William & Mary (Apr. 2-4) and Charleston (Apr. 24-26) and play host to UNCW (Apr. 10-12) and Elon (Apr. 17-19). Campbell will play a midweek contest each Tuesday of the month that includes home games against UNCG (Apr. 7) and High Point (Apr. 28) and road contests against UNCG (Apr. 14) and Charlotte (Apr.). Campbell rounds out the regular season with its longest road swing of the season beginning with a midweek at Charlotte on May 5.
Marx Era
Campbell is coming off Marx's first season at the helm as he led the Camels to a 25-31 record, and a slate that ranked ninth in non-conference strength of schedule.
