Canfield Apartments at UCLA: A Comprehensive Guide to Graduate Student Housing

UCLA is committed to providing comfortable and affordable housing options for its students, especially in the competitive Los Angeles market. As part of this commitment, UCLA has acquired the Canfield Apartments, a newly built 62-unit apartment building located at 3301 South Canfield Ave. in the Cheviot Hills neighborhood. This acquisition adds 142 beds to the university's graduate student housing inventory. The move-in for the first residents of the six-story building began in October.

Location and Neighborhood

The Canfield Apartments are ideally situated in the Cheviot Hills neighborhood, a prime location bordered by Westwood, Beverly Hills, Century City, and Culver City. This puts residents within easy reach of various amenities, attractions, and academic resources. The building is also located near the Pico-Robertson neighborhood. Beverlywood is a welcoming neighborhood located directly south of Beverly Hills in Los Angeles. The community feels very homey, with many residents having lived in the area for years or even decades. Residents enjoy proximity to the Hillcrest Country Club, the Rancho Park Golf Club, the Museum of Jurassic Technology, and Rodeo Drive.

Building Features and Apartment Amenities

The Canfield Apartments building spans nearly 84,000 square feet. The building features an indoor gym with top of the line equipment, beautiful outdoor courtyard with lounge seating, a fire pit, gas grill and ping pong table. The lush landscaping suites ideal private park provide a beautiful atmosphere for our community. It offers a variety of accommodations, from studios to three-bedroom units. Each apartment is fully furnished and features modern amenities, including:

Affordable Housing Options

A significant aspect of the Canfield Apartments is the inclusion of deed-restricted affordable housing units. Five of the apartments are designated as such, ensuring that these units remain affordable for lower-income residents over the long term. Rent for student housing at UCLA is already below that of privately owned housing in the area, and this affordable housing designation allows for even deeper rent cuts for roughly a dozen student residents. These deed-restricted affordable housing units are nearing completion and are expected to be available for move-in by mid-fall quarter. The Graduate Student Association helped raise awareness about the availability of these units for students with the greatest financial need.

Parking and Transportation

For the The Boulevard parking is included in the contract but may be shared among roommates. Transportation options available in Los Angeles include Culver City, located 2.0 miles from Canfield Imperial.

Other UCLA Housing Options

While the Canfield Apartments offer a valuable housing option, UCLA provides a range of other accommodations for graduate students. University Apartments North (UAN) include Hilgard (HLG) and Weyburn Terrace (WT). All UAN units are furnished and include high-speed internet and utilities (electric, water, gas, and trash). Weyburn Terrace (WT)

Weyburn Terrace offers various options including:

  • Economy Studio: \$1,802.33 monthly rate, 33 apartments, 1 tenant per apartment. There are 33 studios in the Paseo building of Weyburn Terrace that receive minimal natural light and are therefore available at a lower contract price
  • Studio: \$1,859.33 monthly rate, 747 apartments, 1 tenant per apartment.
  • Two bedroom/Two bathroom Apartment: \$1,648.33 monthly rate, 392 apartments (784 bed spaces), 2 tenants per apartment.
  • Two bedroom/Two bathroom Townhouse: \$1,718.33 monthly rate, 148 apartments (296 bed spaces), 2 tenants per apartment.

The monthly rate includes the \$1.33 Association Fee.

University Apartments South (UAS)

UAS has a mix of unfurnished (KM, RA & VB) and furnished (TB, CF) units. All units in UAS come included with internet and select utilities (water and trash). For the unfurnished units (KM, RA & VB) one parking space is included per bed space.

Canfield Imperial is within 11 minutes or 4.2 miles from West Los Angeles College. Canfield Imperial has 3 shopping centers within 0.5 mile, which is about a 10-minute walk.
