A History of Growth and Adaptation
Capital's journey began in 1967 with the establishment of Greater Hartford Community College. A significant turning point occurred in 1992 when it merged with Hartford State Technical College, resulting in the creation of Capital Community-Technical College. In 2000, the institution adopted its current name, Capital Community College. These transformations reflect the college's commitment to adapting to the changing educational landscape and the needs of its students.
Conveniently Located in Downtown Hartford
Capital is conveniently located in downtown Hartford in the historic former G. Fox building, just minutes away from some of Connecticut’s largest employers and potential internships. The college's strategic location in the historic former G. Fox building places students in close proximity to major Connecticut employers and internship opportunities. This integration of history, the arts, government and business into the educational experience, with classes and co-operative education opportunities that make the most of being in the center of the city. Students have access to nationally known theaters and museums through the Hartford Heritage Project.
The 1,913,000-square-foot (177,700 m2) building served as the home of the department store until it closed in 1993. The move to the G. Fox building marked a significant step in supporting the redevelopment of downtown Hartford.
Diverse Programs and Academic Excellence
Capital Community College offers a wide array of academic programs, with more than 60 degree and certificate options available. Among the 60+ degree and certificate programs offered, Capital has the largest nursing program and the only theater arts program within CT State. Students can earn degrees and certificates in 39 different fields. Popular programs include: Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse, General Studies, and Social Work.
