Directions to Capital University
From the East (via I-66)
I-66 from Virginia empties onto Constitution Avenue. Continue east on Constitution Avenue and turn left on 6th Street, NW. Turn right on E Street, NW. Turn left on North Capitol Street. Drive approximately 2 miles and turn right on Michigan Avenue, NE.
From the South (via I-95)
When I-95 intersects the Capital Beltway in Springfield, Virginia, follow I-395 North. After crossing the Potomac River, take the "Route 1 North" exit. The road becomes 14th Street, NW. Turn right on Constitution Avenue. Turn left on 6th Street, NW. Turn right on E Street, NW. Turn left on North Capitol Street. Drive approximately 2 miles and turn right on Michigan Avenue, NE.
From the Northeast (via Route 50)
Take Route 50 West (becomes New York Avenue) and exit on South Dakota Avenue. After approximately 1.3 miles, turn left onto Monroe Street. Follow Monroe Street until it merges with Michigan Avenue.
From the Northwest (via I-270)
From Frederick, Maryland, take Exit 53, I-270 South to Washington. I-270 divides. Take the 495 East, Silver Spring/College Park exit (two left lanes). You will eventually feed onto the beltway, I-495. Continue on I-495 and take Exit 22 B, the Baltimore/Washington Parkway. Continue traveling south on the Parkway and exit at Route 50 West. Take the South Dakota Avenue exit. After approximately 1.3 miles, turn left onto Monroe Street. At Michigan Avenue, Monroe Street ends.

From the North (via I-95/I-495)
Follow I-95/I-495 South to Exit 22B, the Baltimore/Washington Parkway. Continue traveling south on the Parkway and exit at Route 50 West. Take the South Dakota Avenue exit. After approximately 1.3 miles, turn left onto Monroe Street. Monroe Street ends at Michigan Avenue, NE.
Transportation Options
Metrorail
The Metrorail is a convenient way to reach the campus. Take a red line train (direction of Glenmont) three stops to the Brookland-CUA station. Exit to the left when leaving the station.
Airport Transportation
Visitors arriving at local airports have several options: rental cars, taxis, ride-sharing services, and mass transit.
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA)
This is the closest airport to Capital University. You can take a taxi, Metrorail, or rental car to reach campus. Metrorail is the fastest and easiest way to get to campus. Take Metro's yellow line to the Gallery Place/Chinatown station, transfer to the red line (in the direction of Glenmont), and arrive at the Brookland-CUA metro stop.
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
- Weekdays: Take the Marc train to Washington's Union Station or the B30 Metro bus to Greenbelt Metro Station. From there, board Metro's red line (in the direction of Glenmont) and take it to the Brookland/CUA stop.
- Weekends: Take Amtrak to Union Station. From there, board the Metrorail red line (in the direction of Glenmont) and take it to the Brookland/CUA stop.
- Super Shuttle: Another option to access CUA from BWI.
Dulles International Airport (IAD)
Take the Silver Line Metrorail from the airport's station to the Brookland/CUA station on the Red Line.

Metropolitan Branch Trail
The Metropolitan Branch Trail is an 8-mile trail from Union Station in the District of Columbia to Silver Spring in Maryland. It runs beside the Catholic University campus along John McCormack Drive, NE.
Parking Information
Capital University has specific parking regulations to ensure smooth operations and accessibility.
General Regulations
Beginning on the first day of classes, Security will monitor parking permits and issue a ticket to any student without a valid parking permit or who is parking in Lot 1 or other designated Faculty/Staff spaces. Security may tow your vehicle if there are additional offenses.
Law School Parking
The Law School provides a limited number of free parking spaces in Lot 2, located next to the Law School on the corner of Grant Street and Capital Street. Do not park in spaces designated for Faculty and Staff along the Grant St. fence until after 5:00 pm. Anyone who parks in a buddy parking space MUST leave their keys with Security. This document constitutes notice that if you do not leave your keys, Security may tow your vehicle as needed (i.e., in an emergency, if the person parked in the adjoining buddy space needs to leave the parking lot, and other similar situations). Student spaces in Lot 2 usually are full by 8:30 am.
Lot 4
Lot 4 is off-campus parking located at Franklin University on East Rich Street, just east of South Grant Avenue. The Law School provides a shuttle to and from Lot 4 in the fall and spring semesters. The shuttle schedule for the fall 2024 semester is Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm (subject to change for Special Events if needed). It runs on a continuous loop that takes about 10 minutes. A security guard is available after 6:00 PM to accompany you to your vehicle.

Restricted Parking Areas
Students may not park in Lot 1 at any time. It is reserved for Faculty/Staff or those with a valid disability license plate or placard. In Lot 2, spaces are designated along the Grant Street fence for Faculty and Staff only. Six (6) visitor parking spots are located in Lot #2, located on the corner of Broad Street and Grant Avenue accessible via Capital Street. Guests must have prior permission to park in these spots.
Parking Permit Application
All current and new Capital University Law School students must apply for their parking permit online. Complete the Parking Permit Application online. All faculty and staff are required to have proper parking permits (F permit) displayed at all times when parking in university lots. This parking pass is also proper for parking on the Bexley campus.

Weather-Related Closures
Capital University prioritizes the safety of its students and staff. In cases of severe weather, the university may move to remote/virtual learning and offices. Students should watch for communications from their professors about virtual classes and assignments. Supervisors should communicate expectations with their staff, and employees are expected to work from home if they are able to.
For example, due to a Level 3 snow emergency affecting all of Central Ohio, Capital University was closed on Sunday, Jan. 25. Classes and activities were cancelled and offices were closed for Monday, Jan. 26, on the Bexley campus. The Law School held classes virtually on Monday.
Campus Operations During Closures
During weather-related closures, dining services will be available in the Main Dining Room and, depending upon staffing, Capital Grounds and One Main Cafe also may be open.
