CARE International Internships: A Stepping Stone to Global Impact
CARE International has been at the forefront of fighting poverty and promoting social justice for decades. With a presence in over 100 countries, CARE focuses on empowering communities, especially women and marginalized groups, to build sustainable futures. An internship with CARE International offers a unique opportunity to contribute to this mission, providing participants with hands-on experience in addressing pressing global issues.
Immersive Experience in Global Issues
CARE internships provide participants with the chance to immerse themselves in pressing global issues, ranging from food insecurity and health crises to gender equality and climate change adaptation. Interns do not merely observe; they actively contribute to projects that create tangible impact in vulnerable communities.
Diverse Internship Opportunities
Reflecting the organization’s wide-ranging mission, CARE International internships are diverse. CARE USA welcomes and encourages students who are interested in making a difference in the world to consider pursuing an internship.
Professional and Personal Growth
CARE internships are structured to provide both professional and personal growth. Interns sharpen their research, analytical, and communication skills while working in a collaborative and multicultural environment. They also learn how large-scale humanitarian organizations operate, gaining exposure to project cycles, donor relations, and cross-border teamwork.
A Launchpad for Humanitarian Careers
Many participants view their CARE internship as more than just temporary training; it often becomes a stepping stone toward a career in humanitarian or development work. Some interns transition into full-time positions within CARE itself, while others leverage the experience to join United Nations agencies, international NGOs, research institutes, or government organizations.

Overseas Interns Program
The Overseas interns Program provides students of global development, global health and other related fields with valuable opportunities to gain international work experience. The program seeks to assist in the development of high potential, future leaders in the field of international development and humanitarian assistance through short-term, practical learning experiences. In addition to networking opportunities, fellows are also afforded participation in a series of professional development training offered through CARE’s online university, CARE Academy. The program focuses on approaches that provide optimal skill development and learning.
The Overseas interns Program seeks to match successful applicants with assignments that fit closely with their academic background and stated areas of interest. The matching process occurs on a rolling basis and interested students are encouraged to apply at any time throughout the year. Note: CARE only employs interns in low or moderate risk locations. Interns who are partially or wholly sponsored by the university must provide a letter of permission to travel to the particular location(s). Prior to starting an assignment, the intern must have proof of health and evacuation insurance that covers him/her in that location (which may be provided by CARE); and complete CARE Academy’s online safety & security course. Please note that only successful applicants will be contacted. If you are not contacted within 60 days of submitting your application, please consider your application unsuccessful.
