Internships at Wits University
Internships at WITS are temporary employment opportunities that simulate a real job by requiring the intern to independently apply skills and knowledge in real-world workplaces. Students work with a professional who supervises their duties and reviews their performance like an actual employer. The student is responsible for securing her own internship.
The internship must have a start and end date within the semester dates. The intern position cannot be routine work that the company would otherwise be hiring an employee to complete. The intern will have a supervisor to provide guidance, mentorship, and training throughout the semester. The supervisor may not be a direct family member.
Internship Credit Options
Options for 1-credit, 2-credit or 3-credit internships are available. Students must secure internship placements on their own and are required to apply for approval during the registration period before the start of each semester. To receive credit, the internship must be approved by WITS prior to its start, and academic credit is earned upon successful completion of course requirements. Upon approval, students must register and pay for the appropriate internship course on Populi. The application deadline is three weeks prior to the start of the semester in which you are planning to participate in the internship placement.
