Navigating the Carleton College Transcript Request Process: A Comprehensive Guide

A Carleton College transcript is an official record of a student's academic performance at the institution. It includes information such as courses taken, grades received, and degrees earned. Transcripts are often required for various purposes, including applications to graduate school, employment opportunities, and professional licensure. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the Carleton College transcript request process, including how to request a transcript, what information it contains, and how it is used.

Understanding the Carleton College Transcript

A Carleton College transcript serves as an official verification of a student's academic history at the college. Employers often request transcripts to verify a candidate's academic background, including enrollment dates, degrees earned, GPA, and completed coursework, especially when applying for quantitatively oriented positions. Most organizations typically request an unofficial copy, which can be obtained by making a copy or copying and pasting the information into a blank document. If there are any concerns regarding the transcript, adding a note to address them can be beneficial.

Requesting a Transcript from Carleton College

Carleton College uses Parchment, a secure online service, to process transcript requests. To request a transcript, follow the instructions on the Carleton Registrar’s web page.

Transcripts for Global Engagement Programs

Students participating in a Carleton Global Engagement Program must request academic transcripts, as Carleton College does not automatically send them to the student's home institution. For Global Engagement Programs from Fall 2016 or later, transcripts are processed through Parchment, following the instructions on the Carleton Registrar’s web page. Transcripts for Antioch Education Abroad programs completed before Fall 2016 are issued by Antioch University through the National Student Clearinghouse. When ordering, students will be asked to select the campus they attended.

Carleton Credit Conversion

Transcripts for Carleton Global Engagement programs are issued using Carleton credit units. Carleton Global Engagement recommends that students contact the study abroad office or registrar’s office at their home institution for institution-specific transfer credit policies and conversion information between Carleton credits and semester credits.

Academic Policies and Regulations at Carleton College

Carleton College has specific academic policies and regulations that impact a student's transcript.

Course Load and Credits

Students are generally required to enroll in four or five courses per term, which translates to 16-semester credits upon successful completion.

Independent Study/Field Research Projects

Independent Study/Field Research Project courses are required for participation in a Carleton Global Engagement Program. Students confirm that participation in the Independent Study/Field Research course is required and that students may not voluntarily withdraw. Requests to drop the Independent Study/Field Research will be considered only for the most serious and extraordinary reasons.

Grading and Evaluation

Grade reports for each course are submitted to the Registrar online at the close of each term. Once a grade has been reported, it becomes part of the student's permanent record and can be changed only by the faculty member and with the approval of the Academic Standing Committee (ASC). At the end of any course, a student may request a written evaluation of their work to supplement the letter grade. Professors must honor the request for courses with fewer than 20 students but may choose whether to provide a written evaluation for courses with more than 20 students.

Deadlines and Late Work

Students are expected to complete and submit all coursework by the end of the official examination schedule for each term. Late work is generally not graded to maintain fairness among students and provide a common framework of time available to all students.

Considerations for QuestBridge Applicants

QuestBridge is a program that connects high-achieving, low-income students with opportunities at top colleges and universities. Carleton College is a partner institution with QuestBridge.

Application Process for QuestBridge Finalists

QuestBridge sends Finalists’ applications to Carleton College, and it may take Carleton a couple of days to import them into their system. To apply to Carleton College through QuestBridge, finalists need to follow specific steps:

  1. Carleton Program Selection for QuestBridge Applicants Form: Submit the Carleton Program Selection for QuestBridge Applicants form anytime before or after matches are announced (due January 15 at the latest).
  2. Regular Decision Form: Select Carleton College on the QuestBridge Regular Decision Form on your Application Management page between November 4 - December 11. Only check the box if you fully intend to submit a complete application to Carleton College (including all of the materials detailed in the table below).
  3. Activate Carleton College Applicant Portal: Activate your Carleton College Applicant Portal. QuestBridge will send Finalists’ applications to Carleton College on December 16 and Carleton College may need a couple days to import them into their system.

Early Decision Options for QuestBridge Applicants

Finalists who do not match may apply Early Decision to Carleton through Winter Early Decision II. Finalists who did not rank any colleges may apply Early Decision I or Early Decision II. The deadline for Early Decision I is November 15. The deadline for Early Decision II is January 15.

Regular Decision Process for QuestBridge Applicants

All Finalists who rank Carleton for the Match and are not matched with any institution will have their applications automatically moved into the Regular Decision process. If you no longer wish to be considered for admission to Carleton, or if you would like to apply Early Decision II instead of Regular Decision, submit the Carleton Program Selection for QuestBridge Applicants form anytime before January 15. Students participating in the Match who did not list Carleton can fill out a form by December 9 if they would like their application rolled into the Carleton applicant pool.

Financial Aid for QuestBridge Applicants

Carleton College requires the CSS Profile and the FAFSA for financial aid consideration.

  • CSS Profile: Each parent must complete a CSS Profile application. It is recommended that the student and custodial parent start the CSS Profile application first. The noncustodial parent will need to create a College Board account before providing their information. If you do not have any contact with your noncustodial parent, then you may submit a request to waive the requirement of their financial information. Your request must include a statement from a third party who can verify your situation. Download the Noncustodial Parent Waiver Petition. The CSS Profile must be submitted online through the College Board's College Scholarship Service. Additional documents may be submitted to the Student Financial Aid Office. You may also request a secured portal to submit sensitive documents. Students may receive a request from Student Financial Aid for additional information. If you do NOT receive a request, the office has enough information to provide an initial financial aid award at the time of admission.
  • FAFSA: FAFSA code: 002340. Submit as soon as available. The FAFSA will open this fall.

Test-Optional Policy

Carleton has adopted a test-optional policy for first-year applicants applying for admission for entry in Fall 2026. This policy means that results of the SAT or the ACT are not required, but you may still submit them. Students may self-report test scores (for free) using a specific form. They can also request official scores from the College Board (SAT code: 6081) and/or ACT (ACT code: 2092); do NOT use the rush reporting service. Please select "Early Decision" as your admission application type.
