Leveraging Resources: A Guide to the Cleveland Clinic Alumni Library

Cleveland Clinic, a global leader in healthcare innovation, recognizes the invaluable contributions of its alumni. These individuals have not only expanded the Clinic's legacy but also extended its reach and reputation worldwide. As such, Cleveland Clinic provides a variety of resources to support its alumni in their continued professional development and patient care endeavors. Among these resources, the Alumni Library stands out as a particularly valuable asset. This article will explore the resources available through the Cleveland Clinic Alumni Library, as well as other opportunities for alumni engagement.

Accessing the Alumni Library

Alumni are welcome to visit Cleveland Clinic's Alumni Library in person. The library provides access to computers for utilizing all electronic resources. Library staff is available to complete literature searches and provide copies of articles from print journals.

To reach the Alumni Library, after parking, follow directions for JJ-South and take the elevator to the 3rd floor. Turn left and go through the single door near the FedEx/UPS boxes.

Electronic Resources and ILLiad

The Alumni Library provides access to a comprehensive collection of electronic resources. Alumni can utilize ILLiad, an electronic system, to request copies of various materials, including:

  • Journal articles
  • Book chapters
  • Books
  • Conference proceedings
  • Patents
  • Reports
  • Theses

When searching PubMed or Ovid, alumni can click the CCFLinks button next to their citation. Selecting ILLiad from the window that opens allows them to enter their ILLiad username and password. The form is automatically filled out, and clicking the Submit Request button returns them to the ILLiad Main Menu screen.

Similarly, when searching any OhioLINK database, clicking the FindIt button next to the citation allows alumni to get a copy via Interlibrary Loan. After entering their ILLiad username and password, the form is automatically filled out, and clicking the Submit Request button returns them to the ILLiad Main Menu screen.

It is important to check the OhioLINK Catalog first before requesting any of these publications. If the item is available at an OhioLINK library, it must be requested via OhioLINK.

Most journal articles are delivered electronically within 3-4 days of placing the request. For RUSH journal article requests, alumni should enter the information into ILLiad, copy their Transaction Number (TN), and call the Library at 216-444-5697 to notify them of the RUSH request. If an alumnus forgets their ILLiad username, they can also call the Library at 216-444-5697.
