Unveiling the Features of the CFCC Student Portal
Cape Fear Community College (CFCC) provides students with a comprehensive online portal designed to streamline their academic journey. This article explores the various features and functionalities of the CFCC student portal, offering insights into how students can leverage this tool to manage their academic careers effectively. MyCFCC is Cape Fear Community College's official student portal and central access point for all key services.
Centralized Access and Key Services
MyCFCC serves as the college's official student portal and a central access point for all key services. Designed for iPad, the platform provides students with a wide array of tools and resources, accessible in one convenient location.
Self-Service Student Planning
The platform students use to register for classes, view grades, manage financial aid, and pay tuition via the Self-Service Student Planning link.
Key Features and Functionalities
The CFCC student portal boasts a range of features designed to support students throughout their academic careers.
Academic Planning and Registration
The portal's Self-Service Student Planning link is a crucial tool for students. Through this, students can register for classes, ensuring they enroll in the courses necessary for their program.

Financial Management
Managing finances is a critical aspect of college life. The CFCC student portal allows students to manage financial aid, providing a centralized location to view and manage their awards. Students can also pay tuition via the Self-Service Student Planning link.
Academic Records and Progress Tracking
Students can view grades through the portal, staying informed about their academic performance in each course. The Program Evaluation, accessible through the "Self Service" app and then "Student Planning," tracks a student’s progress towards graduation based on the student’s catalog of record. The Program Evaluation allows students, advisors, and counselors to follow progress towards completion of a degree, diploma or certificate. Students can also use the system for “what if” scenarios when considering changing majors. This feature will reconfigure the courses a student has already taken and apply them to the “what-if” program requirements.
Access to Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus
Students have the free benefit of Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus, which includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and OneDrive in the Microsoft cloud. The tools are available for up to five devices per account, which means you can access from a personal computer, tablet, and/or cell phone on any browser.
Inclusive Access Program
CFCC offers an Inclusive Access program to reduce student course materials costs. This program provides access to digital course content, including interactive courseware platforms and e-books, often at a reduced price compared to traditional print materials.
How Inclusive Access Works
Once you register for your courses, the bookstore will get everything ready for your Inclusive Access courses! At the point of registration, your course will be marked as ‘Access’. Faculty will continue to adopt content by contacting the bookstore. Required materials are supplied at the beginning of each term. Required materials are accessible on, or before, the first day of class. The access charge will be billed directly to your student account after the opt-out deadline or add in other billing method.

Benefits and Costs of Inclusive Access
Students can save 30-50% on required course materials through this program. The price varies depending upon the content chosen by the instructor. Inclusive Access prices are lower than the cost of purchasing access direct from the publisher, and an average of 30-50% below the cost of a new material.
Opting-Out of Inclusive Access
All students are automatically enrolled in Inclusive Access. However, you may opt-out of the program during specified opt-out periods (the opt-out deadline) at the start of each term and you are then responsible for finding and purchasing their required course materials independently. Students may opt-out of the program until the 75% refund date.
If you opted-out by mistake or changed your mind, you can opt-in by contacting the bookstore and choosing “Opt-In”.
Registrar's Office Resources
Need assistance with transcripts, enrollment verification, address or name changes, withdrawals, and questions regarding filing your intent to graduate or graduation requirements? CFCC’s Registrar’s Office is here to help.
Key Resources Provided by the Registrar's Office:
- Academic Calendar: Provides important dates and deadlines throughout the academic year.
- Academic Standards: Outlines the college's academic policies and expectations.
- Academic Forgiveness: Details the process for students to request academic forgiveness.
- Catalog and Student Handbook: A comprehensive guide to all programs, policies, and procedures at CFCC.
Credit for Prior Learning
Students may request credit by proficiency examination for previous experience or training for selected courses. The student must be enrolled at CFCC and not have enrolled in the course before taking the proficiency exam. The student must request the Credit by Proficiency Application from the Registrar and have it approved by the department chair to challenge the course. Students may challenge a course only once. Students successfully passing a proficiency exam will receive credit for the course as a “CR” (credit for record). Credit by Proficiency does not usually transfer. CLEP and AP exams may be used instead of proficiency exams.

Enrollment and Degree Verifications
The National Student Clearinghouse is CFCC's authorized agent for providing degree and enrollment verifications.
GPA Calculator
The portal provides resources to help students calculate their GPA. To calculate your GPA, take the number of credit hours assigned to each registered class and multiply them by the value of the grade earned (A = 4pts, B = 3pts, C = 2pts, D = 1 pt, F, W, WP, WF = 0 pts).
Commencement Information
Commencement ceremonies are held twice each academic year, in May, for our May and December graduates and in August for our summer graduates. Degrees are posted to the official transcript within one week of Commencement.
Intent to Graduate
The Intent to Graduate form should be submitted when you and your advisor feel that you are within 1 to 2 semesters of completing your program course requirements. Be sure to select and include every program from which you expect to receive a degree, diploma, or certificate at the time you are completing the form. The college encourages as many students as possible to participate in the ceremonies; however, Intents to Graduate received after the priority date to file may be added to a waitlist and are not guaranteed to participate in the ceremonies due to spacing limitations, planning, and preparations that need to occur ahead of time.
FERPA Information
Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, the rights of the student and the responsibilities of the institution concerning the various types of student records maintained by the institution are established. You may also print and complete the form . The student must bring the completed form to the Registrar’s Office in person. Please note: The Registrar will only accept this form from the student.
Transcript Requests
Need your CFCC transcript? Here’s everything you need to know to request one. The site will walk you through placing your order, including delivery options and fees. You can order as many transcripts as you like in a single session. There is a fee per copy.
Reverse Transfer Program
Eligible students can participate when they transfer to one of the participating universities. The universities will send data to us twice a year (approximately February and July). We will evaluate your earned credits to ensure you have reached a total number of credits toward earning the associate’s degree.
Schedule Changes
In some instances, it is necessary for students to make adjustments to their schedules. Students may make schedule changes via WebAdvisor or Student Planning through the Add/Drop period. Adjustments to drop one class and add another during this period must be completed in one transaction to avoid a refund penalty. Please visit one of our academic advising centers if you need assistance with schedule adjustments.
