Academic Programs

Chadwick School offers a wide range of academic programs designed to meet the diverse needs and interests of its students. The school offers 21 AP courses.

Village School (K-6): The Village School focuses on building a strong foundation in core subjects while fostering creativity and critical thinking skills. The K-5 educational experience is delivered through the lens of our Core Values of compassion, fairness, honesty, respect and responsibility. Physical education plays a large role in our Village School experience because it teaches students the importance of physical wellbeing, mobility, resilience and teamwork. These are all skills that will serve them well throughout their education and into life. Students in kindergarten all the way through fifth grade get a broad, beneficial introduction to different kinds of visual arts and music. Twice a week, students are given time to wonder, discover and create through hands-on class and lab work. They study ideas and concepts that bring together different elements of Earth, space, life and physical sciences as well as technology, robotics, coding and more. Classes are small in size and feature multiple teachers as well as specific reading and math specialists.
Middle School (7-8): The Middle School curriculum is designed to challenge students academically and prepare them for the rigors of Upper School. The formula for a well-rounded, lifelong learner definitely includes at least a few drops of sweat. By connecting students’ intellectual and physical selves, we’re able to enhance their overall development - the two sides balance and support each other. Within Chadwick Middle School, exploration can be both figurative and literal. Our Outdoor Education program does both! It shows students how to see the world - and their education - through a broad, vibrant lens, and cultivates skills and strengths that will be useful to them in the classroom, in their personal lives and in all their future endeavors. In the Middle School, students have their first opportunities to travel domestically and internationally, applying lessons from the classroom to real-world experiences. A group of middle schoolers head to Chadwick International in South Korea each fall for the annual Songdo 7s Soccer Tournament. Art in the Middle School gives students the opportunity to explore exciting and nuanced parts of themselves. Our Innovation, Design and Entrepreneurship program empowers students to tackle real world challenges by integrating science, technology, engineering and math with design thinking in order to creatively solve problems.
Upper School (9-12): The Upper School offers a college-preparatory curriculum with a wide range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses. In Upper School students really get the chance to push themselves to another level. At Chadwick, we prepare students not only to get into college, but to thrive once they’re there - and long after.

Extracurricular Activities

Chadwick School offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and organizations. Chadwick School offers 17 interscholastic sports: Baseball, Basketball, Cheering, Cross Country, Dance, Equestrian, Flag Football, Football, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Field, Volleyball and Water Polo.

Small Class Sizes

Chadwick has optimal class sizes allowing teachers to know each of their students well. The typical class for the Village School is 20 students, and most elementary grades have 2 teachers in each classroom.

Financial Aid and Scholarship Opportunities

Chadwick School is committed to making its exceptional education accessible to students from diverse financial backgrounds. The school offers a robust, need-based financial aid program for students in every grade. This need-based program provides assistance for tuition costs as well as many of the "extras" like bus transportation, textbooks and our global programs. It considers a host of different factors and context, such as assets, income, expenses, debts and any other information noted on the application and during the application process.

To apply for financial aid, families must complete the Clarity application. The application opens each year in mid-September and is due for returning families on Monday, Dec. 15 or new families on Thursday, Jan.

Named Scholarships

Two named scholarships are available to help make a Chadwick education a reality. These are made possible thanks to the generosity of families and foundations who have seen firsthand the transformative power of a Chadwick education. These scholarships are reserved for students with demonstrated financial need to meet the cost of tuition, and whose potential will be supported by Chadwick’s academic, social and leadership opportunities.

The Malone Scholarship: The goal of the Malone Scholarship is to provide an outstanding education to students who demonstrate exceptional intellectual ability and achievement. Students who are considered for this opportunity will have exhibited a keen desire to learn and enthusiasm for maximizing their educational opportunities, yet are not able to meet the full tuition cost of a Chadwick education.

Admissions Information

The 2026-27 school year application deadline is Jan. 12, 2026. There are four major entry points to Chadwick School. We admit approximately 40 new students to the Kindergarten program each year. It is important to note that all students entering Kindergarten must be five years of age by Sept. 1 in the year they plan to enroll. With a larger Grade 6 class, we have the opportunity to offer admission to approximately 35 new students. We enroll approximately 8 to 15 new students in Grade 7, and 25 to 30 new students to Grade 9.

The admissions committees consider the candidate’s school record, teacher and administrator recommendations, and test scores. Given Chadwick’s emphasis on our Core Values - respect, responsibility, fairness, compassion and honesty - the student’s character and integrity are significant in our decision-making. Other factors include age appropriate considerations of leadership, work ethic and commitment, and talent - both potential and demonstrated. We consider each student in the context of the total applicant pool.

To enroll at Chadwick School, an international student must be fully fluent in English and live within commuting distance of the school with one or both parents. Because we do not have an ELL (English Language Learner) program, full English fluency is absolutely required for all students, written, read and spoken. Academic success at Chadwick depends on the applicant's ability to communicate effectively in English. To that end, we do require that applicants to the 7th through 12th grades complete an interview through Vericant to demonstrate English fluency. We do not have a home-stay program or offer boarding, nor do our students live with guardians. Chadwick issues the Form I-20 once a student has been accepted and is enrolled.

Additional Information

Transportation: Chadwick provides a bus to service our families from Carson, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Ladera Heights, Lomita, Long Beach, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach and Torrance. Morning, afternoon, and round-trip fare options are available for each location. Actual costs and schedules will be made available to students and their families each summer, as locations may vary each year. Annual bus fees range from $530 - $1,295 one way and $1,425 - $2,190 round trip. Chadwick has an extensive network of carpools.
Dress Code: Founder Margaret Chadwick believed that a student’s choice of dress is a means of self-expression, so we do not have uniforms.
After-Care Program: Our main after-care program in the Village School is called Extended Day and it offers a blend of structured and self-directed activities in an informal atmosphere at a cost of $12 per hour after school. Extended Day is also available before regular school hours with no associated fee. Afternoon activities may include indoor and outdoor games as well as arts and crafts. The program also provides structured time for homework, relaxation and exploration, and a healthy snack.
