Christopher Whitelaw Pine, born on August 26, 1980, is an American actor. He is well-known for playing James T. Kirk in the Star Trek movies from 2009 to 2016. Chris Pine first became famous for his roles in romantic comedies. These included The Princess Diaries 2 (2004) and Just My Luck (2006). Pine was born into a family of actors. His father, Robert Pine, has appeared in films and television shows, and from 1977 to 1983 he had a leading role on the TV crime drama CHiPs, playing Sgt. Joseph Getraer. Pine’s mother, Gwynne Gilford, acted before becoming a therapist, and her notable credits include guest roles on Gunsmoke, One Day at a Time, and Hart to Hart. She also played the wife of Joseph Getraer on six episodes (1979-81) of CHiPs. In addition, Pine’s maternal grandparents, Anne Gwynne and Max M. Gilford, worked in show business: Gwynne appeared in horror films of the 1940s-she has been credited as one of Hollywood’s first “scream queens”-and Gilford briefly worked as an actor and producer before focusing on a legal career.

Education: From Oakwood to Berkeley
Pine attended Oakwood School for high school,[9] which he described as "a Jewish liberal school in the Valley,"[10] then went on to graduate from the University of California, Berkeley in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in English.[11][12] While in college, Pine wanted to find a "place where he'd belong", and was not interested in joining a fraternity.

Discovering a Passion for Theatre
It was during his time at Berkeley that Pine began to act, appearing in local plays. As a member of the Berkeley Theatre Department, his first dip into acting was in a Caryl Churchill play at the local La Val’s Subterranean Theater, located underneath a pizza restaurant just 10 minutes walk from the main campus. While treading the boards with his fellow theater-enthusiasts, Pine also performed as Orestes and read Shakespeare to exercise his acting chops with quite a diverse range that caught the eyes of casting directors and agents alike. He loved expressing himself on stage, and after graduating from Berkeley university, he went on to study acting further at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Fran.

In 2007 Pine turned down a role in an adaptation of James Ellroy’s crime novel White Jazz to play Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’s reboot of the Star Trek series. Star Trek became a box-office hit following its release in 2009, and it helped make Pine a household name. He reprised the role of Kirk in the sequels Star Trek into Darkness (2013) and Star Trek Beyond (2016). Pine later was cast as Toby Howard in the critically acclaimed Hell or High Water (2016), which debuted at the Cannes film festival. The drama, written by Taylor Sheridan, centers on brothers who resort to robbing banks to save the family ranch. In 2015, Pine was confirmed to play one of the Howard brothers along with Ben Foster in Hell or High Water (originally called Comancheria).[49] After premiering at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, the film was released in August 2016.[50] Clayton Davis of Variety found Pine's performance in the film to be his best, writing that Pine "shows his reserved range as a leading man."[3]

That year he had major roles in the adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s book A Wrinkle in Time and the historical drama Outlaw King, in which he was cast as Robert the Bruce. He also voiced a version of Peter Parker in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In 2020 Pine reprised his role as Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman 1984. The film is reportedly a comedic mystery in the vein of Chinatown (1974) and was co-produced by Patty Jenkins and co-starred Annette Bening, Danny DeVito and Ariana DeBose.

Chris Pine has been in relationships with models and actresses. He was with South African model Karrin Capra from 2011 to 2013. Political Engagement
During the 2016 presidential election, Pine joined other Star Trek actors and directors. They supported a movement called Trek Against Trump, which endorsed Hillary Clinton. DUI Arrest
On March 1, 2014, while filming Z for Zachariah in New Zealand, Pine was arrested by police near Methven after failing to pass a routine roadside breath alcohol test.[87][88] He pleaded guilty to drunk driving on March 17, stating that he drank four vodkas at a local pub. Pine was disqualified from driving in New Zealand for six months and ordered to pay NZ$93 in reparation.
