Unveiling Internship Opportunities in Santa Monica: A Comprehensive Guide

The City of Santa Monica offers an exciting range of Spring and Summer Internship opportunities that provide an insider’s view into work within local government. These internships are designed to be a challenging opportunity for current students (enrolled in an accredited college/university) to learn about local government and work with City Departments in conducting and completing exciting, innovative and significant assignments and projects. Interns have the opportunity to be integrated as an operating member of the City team and be provided with work experience that gives a realistic view to an organizational environment.

Benefits of Santa Monica Internships

The Internship should give students the opportunity to be become aware of their obligations as professionals and to the delivery of service to the public. The experience will enhance the student’s awareness of the internal dynamics of an organization and the values and perspectives of employees within a municipality with respect to both the community that is served and the City of Santa Monica team. Educational sessions will occur which will focus on leadership, management and career development in the summer session.

Eligibility Criteria

Graduation from high school or the equivalent is the basic requirement.

How to Apply for a Santa Monica Internship

Applicants must submit a clear, concise, completed online City Application along with any required supplemental application and resume with the Human Resources Department by the filing deadline. No postmarks will be accepted. NOTE: Be sure to include volunteer experience, if applicable, when completing your application.

Selection Process Explained

All applicants will be reviewed and only those candidates determined to be most qualified on the basis of experience, training and education, as submitted, will be referred to participating departments for selection interviews. An eligible list of qualified candidates will be created for Internships in the citywide City of Santa Monica Internship Program as well as current opportunities in various departments.
