Clarkson University's Bachelor of Science in Engineering & Management program stands out for its unique integration of technical and business education. Dually accredited by ABET as an engineering degree and by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) as a business degree, this program equips graduates with a powerful combination of skills highly sought after in today's global marketplace.

Curriculum and Experiential Learning

The interdisciplinary curriculum, offered jointly by the Reh School of Business and the Coulter School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, trains students to translate the language of engineering and technology into the world of business and industry. The program emphasizes experiential learning, with many courses integrating open-ended problems and hands-on projects. From the very first day at Clarkson, students begin solving real-world problems through courses like Team-Based Design & Innovation and Technological Entrepreneurship. The program culminates in senior design experiences that further hone their problem-solving abilities.

The Engineering & Management program consists of 35 credit hours in engineering and management, 31 credit hours in mathematics and science, 24 credit hours in engineering, and 31 credit hours in other courses, with 3 credit hours in free electives. The curriculum covers a wide range of industry-relevant competencies, including:

Professional Electives and Research Opportunities

E&M majors benefit from the wide variety of research projects pursued by faculty and graduate students from both the Coulter School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Reh School of Business. Any undergraduate student looking to have a research experience has the opportunity to do so, through research projects and a professional elective in E&M - a 3-credit course (or equivalent) that predominantly covers engineering or engineering management knowledge. Students get involved with:

Design and management of performance improvement initiatives for product development, manufacturing, construction and service (healthcare) environments.
Lean Systems Engineering: Lean product development, Lean for Healthcare, Lean for Sustainability and Lean Manufacturing.
Leveraging technology advancements to improve the supply chain of electricity while keeping the resiliency and security of smart grid operations.
Extending operations research methodologies to address practical problems in supply chain management, planning and scheduling.
Investigating polarization on social media platforms, and analyzing the propagation of misinformation and disinformation on social media networks.
Inventing and patenting.

Five Clarkson University undergraduate students discuss their two patent pending inventions. The students invent in a class facilitated by Clarkson Engineering and Management Associate Professor, John Milne, who had been a Master Inventor at IBM.

Extracurricular Opportunities

The E&M program offers an honors society, a professional student organization and a Student Advisory Council. The Alpha Pi Mu National Honor Society recognizes the top 20 percent of juniors and seniors in the E&M program. The Student Association for Engineering Management regularly hosts business leaders and representatives who engage students in discussions that range from career opportunities to industry trends and issues. The Student Advisory Council serves as an academic advisory group and aids in assessing program outcomes and student activities.

Healthcare Programs: Preparing Professionals for a Growing Field

Clarkson University's Lewis School of Health & Life Sciences offers a range of programs designed to prepare students for the rapidly growing healthcare sector. The new Bachelor of Science in Healthcare degree program, in particular, opens doors to countless careers in the healthcare field, from patient care to public health and policy.

Direct Entry Program

Clarkson’s Direct Entry program is designed to attract the best, brightest and most promising students who wish to enter the fields of healthcare. Majoring in healthcare is also the newest option for Clarkson’s Direct Entry initiative for healthcare. In this program, students complete four years of undergraduate study at Clarkson for a BS degree, then directly enter our master's or doctorate degree programs in their chosen healthcare field. There is no second application, as long as all the requirements and academic criteria have been met. Lexi is a Healthcare Major minoring in psychology with a concentration in Health Psychology, and is also on our Direct Entry track for the Pre-Physician Assistant M.S. program.

Curriculum

Students in the Healthcare major will complete 25-26 core credits and 19 elective credits in healthcare, 22 credits in science, 10 credits in math, 4 credits in required seminar, and 39-40 credits which are open or free electives. Accelerated, Dual, and Joint Degree Programs

For motivated students with a clear career path, Clarkson offers accelerated, dual, and joint degree programs in partnership with reputable colleges and universities.

Dual Degree Options in Business

Clarkson's David D. Reh School of Business offers a dual degree option with the Master of Business Administration program so students can earn two degrees simultaneously with the completion of an additional 15-21 credits. The MBA can be completed as a dual degree with our MS in Applied Data Science. The Reh School of Business also offers a combined degree program for the MBA in Healthcare Management and MS in Healthcare Data Analytics.

Clarkson Common Experience

The following courses are required for all students, irrespective of their program of study. These courses are offered during the fall semester, with FY100 First-Year Seminar being required of only first-year students. Both FY100 and UNIV190 are typically taken during the fall semester of the first year at Clarkson.
