Cloquet Community Education Programs: Lifelong Learning and Community Building

Cloquet's Community Education & Recreation department serves as the backbone of community programming, fostering lifelong learning and strengthening community bonds. Located within Cloquet Middle School, the department cultivates a positive work environment, attracting dedicated staff who contribute to the town's vibrant atmosphere.

The Role of Community Education & Recreation

Community Education & Recreation plays a vital role in Cloquet. With a staff of 75 employees and managing 21 lifeguards at the Beach at Pinehurst, the department offers a wide array of programs and services. A key aspect of their operation is the direct link between student numbers and funding. Therefore, Community Ed & Recreation actively promotes its programs and ensures accurate enrollment counts to maximize financial resources.

Erin Bates, the Community Education & Recreation Director, brings a wealth of experience to her role. After working for the City of Duluth Parks and Recreation Department, she transitioned to Cloquet in 1998. Bates emphasizes the diverse nature of her job, stating, "I love the variety of my job. I get to bounce between several programming areas.”
