Career Technical Education: Building a Foundation for Professional Success
Career Technical Education (CTE) programs at Clovis Adult Education are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in today's competitive job market. These programs are accredited by both the Accrediting Commission for Schools Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) and the Council on Occupational Education (COE). Business Careers Certificate Programs
Clovis Adult Education offers certificate programs in several business-related fields, including Administrative Assistant and Medical Assistant-Front Office.
- Administrative Assistant: This comprehensive program provides students with a wide variety of skills necessary for success in an office environment. Upon satisfactory completion of the course sequence, students will receive a certificate as an Administrative Assistant. Completion of this program takes approximately 8 months (892 hours) and will cost approximately $3,135, including books. The curriculum includes pre-employment preparation, MS Suite/Keyboarding (Windows/Internet/OneDrive, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), office accounting, QuickBooks 2021 for the Office Assistant, business communications, and office procedures.
- Medical Assistant-Front Office: This program trains students for general office duties, appointment and surgery scheduling, and medical records management in a medical setting. It provides training in front office and various back office skills. Upon satisfactory completion of this course sequence, students will receive a certificate in the Medical Assistant-Front Office. Completion of this program takes approximately 8 months (964 hours) and will cost approximately $3,875, including books. The program includes pre-employment preparation, MS Suite/Keyboarding (Windows/Internet/OneDrive, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), office accounting, QuickBooks 2021 for the Office Assistant, business communications, office procedures, medical office terminology, and practical medical office skills.
Getting Started with CTE Business Programs
To enroll in a CTE Business certificate program, applicants must possess a valid, government-issued I.D., a high school diploma from an accredited institution, or a HSE® (high school equivalency). Additionally, they must pass the CTE Business entrance exam at a 7.0 grade level to meet enrollment requirements.

Prospective students can call the CTE Business Department at 559.327.2853 to schedule a TABE test or join an informational ZOOM meeting on selected Mondays for information about the CTE Business Programs, Agency and Financial Aid opportunities, dates for the entrance exam, and a live Questions and Answers session.
Individuals sponsored by an outside agency, such as CalWORKs, California Department of Rehabilitation, Workforce Connection (WIOA), or Veterans Affairs, must provide proof of eligibility or a contract with the name and information of the approved student. This documentation must state the approval of the named program and the intent to pay for program fees, services, and books. Students that have received a DWC job displacement approval form from Workers’ Compensation should contact their claims adjuster if there are questions regarding the DWC form. Documented authorization must be received no later than 2 weeks prior to program payment due date. Exceeding this deadline may result in postponing start date. Career Placement and Externship Opportunities
Clovis Adult Education offers employment placement services to career-oriented students for up to one year following their successful completion of select programs, including Vocational Nurse, Nurse Assistant, Home Health Aide, Medical Assistant-Front Office, and Administrative Assistant. Qualified graduates may also be placed in an 8-week (160 hours) externship at no cost.
Grading Policy
Some CTE classes are graded Pass/No Pass with 75% being the minimum passing grade. Lecture classes utilize a percentage formula as follows: 100-90% = A, 89-80% = B, 79-75% = C. Students must have a minimum of 75% to receive a passing grade. Textbooks are required on the first day of class.

MS Suite/Keyboarding
Clovis Adult Education offers courses to develop competencies in Microsoft Office Professional Suite 2019 & 365 for Windows, Keyboarding and Internet. Data Sheets are provided for each of the following software in the Microsoft Office Professional Suite. Successful passing and completion of each chapter within the suite will validate competency. Completion of the full sequence takes 6-8 months.
- Word 2019 & 365 is the most widely used program for both home and business.
- Excel 2019 & 365 makes working with numbers a pleasure instead of a chore. Excel provides tools to assist in every aspect of worksheet creation and analysis.
- Access 2019 & 365 is a powerful and flexible relational database program that allows you to store, organize and manage information.
- PowerPoint 2019 & 365 is a presentation program that helps you develop animated, dynamic presentations for one person or a large group.
- Keyboarding speed, accuracy and computer efficiency go hand in hand. Use computer programs to learn the keyboard or to build speed and accuracy, to meet the industry minimum standard of 55 words per minute.
Individual CTE Business Classes
Clovis Adult Education also offers individual classes to update skills or make a career change.
- Pre-Employment Preparation (PEP): This course focuses on self-assessment and building self-confidence. Students learn techniques to reduce the time it takes to find a job by discovering new and viable ways to look for employment. Learn how to design a winning resume, practice having professional interviews using the individual and panel format.
- Business Communications: This class focuses on communicating clearly in many forms: letters, memos, presentations, and face-to-face. Students will enhance their skills in grammar, editing, writing, spelling, vocabulary and correct usage of the parts of speech. A class presentation is required.
- Office Procedures: Office Procedures is designed to meet the needs of the new generation office worker.
- QuickBooks: This course requires Office Accounting as a prerequisite. Clovis Adult Education utilizes QuickBooks Desktop 2021 in the classroom. Students learn to maintain accounts, generate reports, process payroll, and other valuable bookkeeping functions with this user-friendly software program.
- Medical Office Terminology: This class focuses on building medical vocabulary and learning to spell and pronounce medical terms. It is a prerequisite for the Practical Medical Office Skills class.
- Practical Medical Office Skills: This course requires Medical Office Terminology within the last 5 years as a prerequisite. Students learn basic office skills that are utilized in medical practices, including scheduling, insurance verification and documentation, insurance claims and billing procedures, medical coding, and professional communication. Students will also be cross-trained so that they can take vital signs and room patients for providers.
- Keyboarding Certification Test Only: Keyboarding Certificate available for a job application.
Nursing & Healthcare Education: Preparing for a Career in Caring
Clovis Adult Education provides several programs and classes in the Nursing and Allied Health fields, including Nurse Assistant, Home Health Aide, VN Pre-Req classes, Vocational Nurse, and CPR. Interested individuals can attend a Nursing and Allied Health Careers Informational Meeting held on select Mondays to learn more about the programs and application process.
Community Education: Lifelong Learning and Personal Enrichment
Clovis Adult Education's Community Education program offers a diverse range of classes designed for personal enrichment and lifelong learning. These classes cover a wide array of subjects, including:

Sexual Harassment Policy
The Governing Board prohibits sexual harassment of or by any student or employee. The board encourages and expects a student to report incidents of sexual harassment to any teacher, counselor, or administrator at the school site immediately. Information is available in the office.
Refund Policy
Refunds, when due, are made within 45 days.
- Refund for classes or programs cancelled by CAE: 100 percent of the fees collected will be refunded within 45 days of the planned start date of the class or program cancelled.
- Refund for student who withdraws before the first day of class: A full refund less a processing fee of $25.00 per class.
- Refund for student enrolled prior to visiting the institution: Students have the opportunity to withdraw, without penalty, within three days following attendance at the regularly scheduled orientation or following a tour of the facility and inspection of equipment.
- Refund for student who withdraws after class commences: A full refund, less a processing fee of $25 per class if the student withdraws on or before the second day of class.
- Refund for student whose circumstances fall outside of the above information: The student must submit a signed appeal letter to the CAE Principal. The student will receive a determination notice from the CAE Principal within fourteen days of receipt of the appeal letter.

Clovis Community College Partnership
Clovis Community College partners with local adult schools and the State Center Adult Education Consortium (SCAEC) to ensure a seamless transition to college. Students who are currently enrolled at an adult school and are pursuing a high school diploma or equivalency certificate are eligible to take up to 11 units at a community college for free thanks to Senate Bill 554 (SB 554).
