Navigating the Colgate University Student Portal: A Comprehensive Guide

Colgate University provides its students, faculty, and staff with a centralized digital experience through the Colgate Portal. This portal unifies access to various campus systems and information, helping users interact with the tools they need.

Accessing the Colgate Portal

Continuing students are expected to register online via Banner Self-Service, which can be accessed through the Colgate portal (portal.colgate.edu). To log in, students need their Colgate network credentials.

InfoShare: Granting Access to Information

InfoShare allows students to grant designees (e.g., parents, guardians) access to view selected information. To authorize access, the student must initiate the process. Colgate officials cannot initiate this authorization.

Understanding InfoShare Permissions

InfoShare provides viewing access only. If a designee has questions about the information they are viewing, they should consult with the student. It's important to note that InfoShare authorization does not grant University officials the authority to discuss a student’s information with a designee. University officials can only discuss general Colgate policies, as they are restricted by FERPA from discussing specifics related to a student's education record.

Accessing Information via InfoShare

The items a student has authorized a designee to view will appear on a dedicated tab. If expected information is missing, the designee should contact the student directly.

Student Accounts and QuikPay

Student Accounts information (tuition, billing, etc.) is not available through InfoShare. However, students can grant access to this information using QuikPay, which is located on the student’s portal page.

Logging Out

To log out of InfoShare, simply close the browser window.

Registration Information

Spring Registration

For example, Spring 2026 registration takes place November 10-14. Students should consult the Registration Help and Tutorials page for more information on registering via Banner Self-Service. A PIN is required for online registration. Students with holds on their records (e.g., accounts receivable hold, major hold) will not be allowed to register until the hold is cleared.

Registration for Off-Campus Students

Students studying off-campus (Colgate study groups, non-Colgate approved programs, leave of absence) are encouraged to register themselves via Banner Self-Service, if possible. The registrar's office can assist off-campus students with registration if needed.

Students on Colgate study groups should consult with their study group director, who serves as their adviser for the term and will provide registration advising and their registration PIN. Students are also encouraged to have discussions with their regular academic adviser.

Important Considerations for Registration

  • Registration requests should be submitted online no later than the morning (EST) of the student's registration time.
  • Students should provide alternate course selections.
  • Students will not be registered in restricted courses unless they have obtained permission through the Course Restriction Override request form.
  • Students will not be registered for a course if they have not satisfied the prerequisites.
  • Students should check the Course Offerings for information regarding course availability.

Due to time constraints during registration, the registrar’s office staff is not able to notify students of the outcome of their registration. Students will be notified the following day IF (a) they were ineligible to register (e.g., due to a financial/accounts receivable hold), or (b) they were registered for fewer than 3 of their requested primary and/or alternate courses. Students should log onto the portal anytime after their registration time to view the outcome of their registration and make any changes, if needed.

TouchNet: Student Account and Billing System

TouchNet is the student account and billing system used by Colgate University. Students can access TouchNet through the Colgate Portal by typing "TouchNet" into the search bar.

Authorized Users in TouchNet

Students can designate a parent, guardian, or other individual as an Authorized User. Authorized Users can:

  • Receive e-statement notifications
  • View the student account information
  • View the 1098T statement
  • Make payments on the student's behalf

Students and Authorized Users access TouchNet in different ways. It's important to note that the TouchNet site will lock a user out after a failed attempt to log in.

Colgate Mobile App

Colgate University also offers a mobile application. The Colgate Mobile app allows you to find and join campus events. The app requires iOS 14.2 or later for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, macOS 11.0 or later and a Mac with Apple M1 chip or later, and visionOS 1.0 or later for Apple Vision.
