Navigating the SAT Admission Ticket: Your Key to Test Day Success
Taking the SAT is a significant step for many students pursuing higher education. A crucial element of the test-taking process is understanding the SAT admission ticket. This article will break down everything you need to know about your admission ticket, from obtaining it to what to do if you misplace it.
What is the SAT Admission Ticket?
The admission ticket serves as your official proof of registration for the SAT. The admission ticket is meant to prove you are who you say you are. It verifies your registration and identity at the test center. Test center staff will compare the information on your admission ticket and your photo ID with the test center roster to confirm your registration and identity. It contains essential information, including:
- Your Photo: A picture of you! The College Board requires this to help discourage cheating.
- Your Personal Information: Your address, birth date, and other identifying details.
- Notes for Students: Special instructions specific to your test center. For example, at my testing center, I had to pay a dollar to park and got my room assignment at building FF.
- Supervisor Instructions: Any extra information your proctor might need.
Obtaining Your SAT Admission Ticket
As you might have gathered, in order to get an admission ticket you must register for the SAT. To get your admission ticket, you must first register for the SAT. During the registration process, you’ll be asked to provide a photo for your ticket. There’s no need to panic, however. If you have a .jpg version of your school photo, you can use that. Another good option is using a webcam to just snap a photo right with your computer.
When you’re done with registration, a screen will come up with your SAT Admission Ticket. Make sure all the information is correct and then print out. If you prefer, you can wait to print the ticket out later.
What to Do If You Misplace Your Ticket
If you misplace your ticket, don’t panic! However, the proctors will not let you take the test without your ticket, so if you don't have it you'll be in a bad spot. It’s better to avoid this situation all together, so make sure you have everything you need for the test together in one place the night before.

Identification Requirements on Test Day
Your admission ticket isn't enough to get you into the test center. Follow these guidelines so you don't get turned away. You can’t be admitted to the test center if any of the information doesn't match. You must also present a valid photo ID. This ID must meet specific requirements:
- Validity: Be a valid (unexpired) photo ID that is government-issued or issued by the school that you currently attend. School IDs from the prior school year are valid through the end of December of the current calendar year.
- Acceptable Forms: Government-issued driver’s license or non-driver ID card. Official school-produced student ID card from the school you currently attend.
- Name Changes: If you need to make a change to your name after you register, please contact Customer Service at least 30 days prior to your intended test date.
If test center staff can’t sufficiently authenticate your identification from the ID you present, you may not be allowed to enter the test center, let alone take the test. Admission to the test center is no guarantee that the ID you provided is valid or that your scores will be reported. You should keep your ID with you at all times while at the test center, including during breaks.
Consequences of Using False Identification
If it’s discovered after your test administration that you used a false or invalid identification, your test scores will be canceled, and you will forfeit your registration and test fees. Your parents or legal guardians (if you’re under 18), your high school, and the colleges and programs you have designated to receive your score reports will be notified and may be told why your scores were canceled. If you fail to comply with these identification requirements and policies, you may be dismissed from the test center. Your scores may be withheld or canceled.
Special Cases for Identification
- Adults (21 or Older): If you’ll be 21 or older on test day, the only acceptable form of identification is an official government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport, that meets all the previous requirements on this page.
- International Testing: If you travel to another country to test, you must use a valid passport as your ID.
- HKEAA Centers: For students testing at HKEAA centers, the only acceptable form of identification is a valid (unexpired) photo ID that is government-issued.
- Nigeria: The only acceptable form of identification is a valid passport with your name, photograph, and signature, or a permanent National Identity Number (NIN) card (physical card version only). Department of Defense (DoD) Common Access Card (CAC), or a valid Aadhaar PVC Card with your name and photograph. Only the letter and PVC Card forms of Aadhaar ID are valid.
- Pakistan: The only acceptable form of identification is a valid passport with your name, photograph, and signature, or a valid Pakistan national ID card.
