Navigating College of DuPage Summer Classes: A Comprehensive Guide
College of DuPage (COD) offers a variety of summer courses, providing students with opportunities for accelerated learning, enrichment, and fulfilling academic requirements. This guide provides an overview of the key aspects of COD's summer classes, including academic policies, conduct expectations, grading procedures, and important dates.
Academic Integrity and Conduct
Attending College of DuPage is a privilege, and students are expected to maintain high standards of conduct. Due to the fast-paced nature of the summer schedule, a strict behavior policy is enforced.
Cheating: Any form of cheating will result in an automatic zero on the assignment.
Internet Use: All internet usage must be directly related to the course curriculum. Using computers for non-academic activities is prohibited without explicit permission from the instructor. Students found viewing or creating threatening or offensive material online will have their access revoked and be removed from the program, as this violates the Continuing Education Student Code of Conduct. Students who accidentally encounter inappropriate material must immediately inform their instructor.
Electronic Devices: The use of electronic devices such as cell phones, smartphones, personal listening devices, personal digital assistants, portable gaming systems, and electronic computing devices is restricted to approved areas. These devices are generally permitted in non-instructional areas. In classrooms, electronic devices may be used for instructional purposes only when specifically authorized by the teacher. Digital textbooks are permitted but will be monitored by the instructor to ensure students remain focused on the task at hand. The classroom teacher has the discretion to determine whether electronic devices may be used in their classroom.

Privacy: College and school policies, as well as classroom guidelines, must be followed in areas where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as restrooms, locker rooms, and the nurse’s office. Violators will face disciplinary action, including confiscation of the device and removal from the program without a refund.
Addressing Concerns and Questions
Students are encouraged to communicate with their instructors regarding course materials or class policies. If a student has concerns about a course or an instructor, they should first attempt to resolve the issue directly with the instructor. If a resolution cannot be reached, the student should report the matter to the site supervisor.
Attendance Policy
Punctuality and regular attendance are essential for success in summer courses. Four instances of tardiness in a semester course are equivalent to one absence. Excessive absences can impact a student's grade.
Grading System and Grade Release
College of DuPage uses a letter grading system, with grades ranging from A to F, as well as "X" for audit and "W" for withdrawal.
Grade Release: Due to privacy laws, a signed and dated Release of Grade form is required for the College of DuPage to release or send a student's grade to any school. Upon completion of a summer school course, grades will be sent to the high school, provided a Release of Grade form has been completed and signed. Grades can also be viewed on myACCESS. A grade release form is needed for each course completed by the student, including semester courses. Continuing Education keeps all grades on file for five (5) years. Grades submitted from the College of DuPage Summer High School Program to the local high schools are final. This policy is designed to maintain the grade/transcript as an accurate and complete record of meeting course requirements.

Grade Options:* A, B, C, D, F: Standard letter grades reflecting performance in the course.
- X (Audit): Students who wish to take a course for enrichment purposes only can choose to audit the course. An "X" will be recorded on the grade report. Tests and quizzes are not mandatory, and grades are not recorded. Attendance is still recorded, and students must adhere to all summer school policies and procedures. Audit grades are not reported to high schools, and the decision to audit is irrevocable.
- W (Withdrawal): A "W" grade is assigned by the instructor if a student has more than two absences (four tardies = one absence) per semester course or for any violation listed in the High School Attendance Policy or the Student Code of Conduct - Appropriate Use of Computer/Online Resources Contract.
Grade Reports: Grade reports will be sent to the high school when a student has completed and signed the Release of Grade form, indicating that the class is being taken for high school credit. Students taking the class for enrichment purposes must check the box "I am auditing this course without a grade awarded (this decision is irrevocable)" on the Release of Grade form.
Student Progress
Student progress reports, including attendance and current grade, will be sent home with the student once during each semester.
Accessing Information and Resources
Students can access important information, register for classes, and view grades through the myACCESS portal at inside.cod.edu.
