Colleges That Waive Tuition: A Comprehensive Guide

Paying for college can be a daunting task, but various pathways exist beyond traditional financial aid. Tuition waivers and exemptions offer reduced tuition and/or fees for specific groups of students. This article explores colleges across the United States that provide tuition waivers, examining eligibility criteria, program specifics, and application processes.

Understanding Tuition Waivers and Exemptions

Tuition waivers and exemptions are designed to make higher education more accessible and affordable. They alleviate the financial burden by reducing or eliminating tuition costs for eligible students. These waivers often cater to specific demographics, such as children of firefighters or police officers who died in the line of duty, members of the National Guard, or students from low-income families.

State-Specific Tuition Waiver Programs

Several states offer tuition waiver programs to support their residents pursuing higher education. These programs often have specific eligibility requirements and application procedures.

Texas

In Texas, tuition exemptions and waivers are available to special groups of Texas residents or nonresidents. To maintain eligibility, students must meet the GPA and excessive hour requirements of ACC’s satisfactory academic progress in a degree or certificate program. ACC advisors can help students plan their course of study to maximize their chances of qualifying for available rebates.

New Hampshire

New Hampshire offers several tuition waivers through the Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH) and the University System of New Hampshire.
