Top Colleges That Produce the Most NFL Players

College football programs serve as the primary training ground for future NFL talent. Each year, the sport’s heavy hitters graduate dozens of players who go on to successful careers in the NFL. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) and Big Ten are the two primary sources of talent when looking at NFL rosters.

The College Football-to-NFL Pipeline

The college football-to-NFL pipeline is highly productive. Out of 1,696 active players in the NFL, a massive 88.6%-1,503 of them-were drafted from college football programs.

Ranking the Top Colleges

Here are some of the colleges with the most NFL players:

1. University of Alabama Crimson Tide

With 14 national titles, the University of Alabama is the winningest college football team of all time. The Crimson Tide have dominated the landscape of the sport since the 1960s and sit atop the list of colleges with the most NFL players. As of August, Alabama leads the pack with 62 players currently in the NFL. In the past, 77 current NFL players came through the University of Alabama. NFL standouts who played for Alabama include Ravens running back Derrick Henry, Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr., guard Landon Dickerson and wide receiver DeVonta Smith of the Eagles, and Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

2. University of Georgia Bulldogs

Coming in second on the list of colleges with the most NFL players is Georgia, with 57 ex-Bulldogs currently in the NFL. Georgia’s three national championships might seem measly compared with some of the all-time powerhouses, but two of those championships came recently, in back-to-back years in 2021 and 2022. Fifteen Georgia Bulldogs were selected in the 2022 NFL draft, a record for any team. Another 10 got picked in the 2023 draft, eight in 2024 and 13 in 2025.
